I've got a question about moving from the US to Canada with US Vonage service. I ported a land-line number to Vonage in the US (913 area code) and would like to keep this number when I move to Canada (as well as have a virtual Canadian area code). One thing I've noticed in the user interface for Vonage is that there doesn't appear to be a way to choose a Canadian address for the 911 service - the country seems to be hard-coded to United States (I guess since I have a US based account). Is there any way to "switch" a US account to a Canadian account while still keeping the phone numbers intact? Or is there some way to configure 911 dialing for Canada from a US Vonage account? Or is there some other option I'm missing? Thanks |

There is a rule at Vonage. You cannot have a US number as your primary number if you are living in Canada. You would need to setup a Canadian number on the Canadian website as your primary number. You can have US numbers as virtual numbers only.
In order to retain your current US number, you will have to contact Vonage customer service about this and tell them what you are doing. If you get someone nice on the line, they may make this happen. If you get someone lazy and not so nice they will tell you that you cannot keep your current number in the US when you move to Canada.
Good luck with it! |

your service will be cheaper if you keep it a US acct. but you will have to keep your US credit card and then your outgoing CID will still be your US number, I do not believe you will be able to set up 911 service tho..
if you want to make the change that DarKev suggested, you may want to contact jdr30 he works for Vonage US and he helps alot of ppl out on these forums, PM him and ask if it's possible to trasfer your current US primary to a CDN virtual.. if it's possible at all he will likely do it, if he says not possible then he will tell you the truth.. |
