I have a Panasonic KX-TS3282 phone and a new Vonage connection. After some tweaking of my firewall I've got the Vonage connection working, but the phone sometimes goes berserk. Some symptoms:

* All the extension lights blink in unison, as if I'd never set this phone's extension.
* The intercom blares a busy signal over the phone's speaker.
* The phone emits a "beep beep beep" for 10 seconds or so.
* The date and time display is constantly changing. It changes to legal values, but incorrect ones.

Does anyone have experience with this or a similar phone with these sorts of problems? It may be the phone rather than the Vonage service, I don't know. I've had zero response from Vonage customer support.

Thanks.

How do you have the phone connected? Disconnect all phone lines from it and start with just the Vonage line connected straight to it and see how it works. I've used a Panasonic KX-TSC11 & KX-TC1871 with my Vonage adapter, so Panasonic phones aren't inerently incompatible with Vonage. You might have a problem with the lines interacting. Also, most of these phones' intercoms & signalling happens to be where DSL is on the phone line, so you might be getting some interference. Best bet is to give Panasoinc a call at: 1-800-211-7262

I've got a simple connection from the RTP300 Phone1 port to Line1 on the telephone. There are no other phones involved; this is the only phone connected to the Vonage service. So there are no other extensions or anything else.

Not sure what you mean by DSL on the phone line...there's DSL on the line coming into the house, but I don't see how that interacts with the phone signal coming out of the RTP300.

Concur that I should talk to Panasonic about this. Thanks.

I have these exact same problems/symptoms with this phone. Here's the one catch though. I have a dual RTP300 setup and one of them works fine with this phone and the second one does not. I've talked to Panasoic and they say it's the router (big surprise). I had my doubts until I had a buddy of mine bring his phone (same model) over and I have the exact same thing. One RTP300 has no problems, the other makes the phone go crazy. I've also talked to Vonage CS earlier this week and they couldn't find anything with the router. Due to my test this morning with a second phone and the same symptoms, my next call will be to get the RTP300 replaced.

For kicks... if you have a DSL filter laying around, can you try putting one between the phone & the router? I have a sneaky suspicion that the phones are getting false signals from the router, which is causing the erratic behavior.

Not a bad thought, unfortunately I've got cable and not DSL so off hand I don't have quick access to one. If I can come up with one I'll post the results.

I did have a DSL filter lying around so I put it on the line. Reset the router and so far so good. Of course the problem was always somewhat intermittent, so it may still pop up. I'll post again if it does.

Thanks for the input.

Same verdict here. I put a DSL filter in line going to this specific phone and the problems no longer exist. I'd still like to figure out why only one of the two RTP300's had this issue with this particular phone, but for now I'm back in business with both lines working on this phone.

Here's a rough explanation of what's most likely occuring. Traditional phone calls use the audio spectrum from ~300Hz - 3500Hz. (for comparision, the frequency range of an AM radio station is 20Hz - 5000Hz) DSL (and probably your phones) take advantage of the fact that the copper wires can carry higher frequencies than that, and use from ~4000Hz and above to carry data. I think the high-end of DSL now goes up to 1 MHz, but I could be wrong, been a long time since I got that deep into the signalling of it.

In all likelihood, the RTP300 was designed for "regular" voice communication and you wouldn't be running DSL on the phone output that comes from the RTP300, so they probably spent enough money to effectively keep the voice region of audio spectrum clean, then said the hell with anything above it, so you're probably getting interference from the RTP300 itself as well as anything around it in the frequencies above the voice region, which is where DSL & the Panasonic phone signalling is. Now, as to why some routers experience it and others don't, that's a good question. Are the serial #'s close on them? Maybe they're from two different batches. Or it could just be a production variation. I'm sure they're only looking/testing the voice part of the spectrum, so as long as that passes, they're probably shipping it.
