PostPosted: Thu Aug 11, 2005 11:46 pm    Post subject: RT31P2 Firmware Upgrade (and some other stuff) Reply with quote Back to top

I just called Vonage about 15 minutes ago and had them upgrade my RT31P2 to 3.1.5(LIc)/1.29.00 firmware revisions.

I'll see how things run and let you guys know.

While I was talking to the tech though, I mentioned if there was any way I could get the password to the Voice section of the router, aka Voice_adminPage.htm (being the geek I am, I want in on that technical stuff), or if it's completely restricted no matter what the circumstances.

So he gives me a password to try, but to my disappointment, it doesn't work no matter the username I use. He says it's the one that he uses, so I dunno.

I tried logging in to the router through the WAN side (http://<IP>:80) to see if maybe that would do anything, but got no results.

On a sidenote, I guess port 80 is the port used by the RT31P2 for remote logins, even if I have remote logins enabled/disabled in router config (on a different port even).
I haven't tested it (I will in a bit here), but will it still do that even if I port forward 80 to a LAN IP?
If it does, that pretty much makes port 80 unavailable to me whether I like it or not. What if I want to run a server (my FreeBSD box is down at the moment, but still) on my network.

Anyway, back to the password thing.
If anyone has suggestions as to where else I should try inputing this password, or if you know of a way to get in without knowing the password, that would be great.

Also, no I will not be posting the password here or anywhere else, so don't ask. Whether it works or not is still in question anyway.

Also, is there a changelog for the router firmware upgrade (not the voice firmware, I already read it)?

My cable has been out all morning, and I'm on hold trying to figure out what the hell is going on.
(hmm, I totally forgot it was scheduled, but it doesn't help when they send the email about a scheduled outage less then 12 hours from it)

Anyway, one annoyance I've found with the RT31P2 firmware just released, is that it makes all the phones in the house give out short rings two or three times.

Normally two short bursts while the router is resetting, and another one when Line1 comes online.

Anyone else confirm?

What type of phones? I wonder if they're reacting to a voltage drop or if the RT's actually putting out ring voltage.

vtech 2.4Ghz

Forget model #, and it's not anywhere on the phone or base.

We also have another non-vtech phone in the Master Bedroom,
GE 2.4Ghz, not sure of its model # either, and haven't confirmed it ringing.

EDIT:

vtech ev2625

27993GE3-B

We have 2 of the vtechs (2 base stations, one downstairs, one upstairs, and two handsets for each, plus the GE in the master bedroom (yes, 5 phones in this house))

Just want to make this clear, it did NOT do this on the 3.1.3(LI)/1.28.00 firmware.

Do both the GE & Vtech phones ring when this happesn? Also, does this happen only when you have voice mail waiting? I wonder if the latest update uses 90v message waiting indication in addition to the tone-based system they used.

Correction on my model number for the GE. It is the same model as the one in the topic you showed me. 27993GE3-B

Also, I just checked, and it doesn't seem to make the GE ring at all. Only the vtechs.

Sorry for late reply. Cable was out for about 4 hours.
12am to 4am maintenance my ass =\

From what I've seen on these routers (RTP300 & RT31P2), they initially leave the phone port circuitry turned off. After awhile it initializes the voice adapter portion of the router, and the normal standby voltage is applied to the ports. When rebooting the router, it also will disconnect the power from the phone ports and then reinitialize them later. Maybe the VTech's ring detector circuit is waaay too tolerant and is seeing any voltage increase (which going from 0vDC to 48vDC would be) and thinking that's ringing. I'm not much of a VTech fan myself, had too many quality issues with them over the years.
