I am a new member and in need of some help. Keep in mind that I am not a technology person and will need step by step instructions. I've been reading posts and am confused. I have had Vonage since March 05 and I have Directv RCA DVR80 and it has stopped working. It went 100 days without a call and then just stopped. When I turn on my tv is says "Welcome...powering up" and it will not move past this screen. Directv tells me it's because I must have it connected to a LAND LINE telephone at all times. They told me the regular receivers only use a phone line for ordering pay per view. The DVR requires it all the time because that's how the system works. I don't know how to get my system back working. I was told to try wireless phone jacks. I bought the RCA wireless phone/modem jacks. These are the steps I took... I plugged my phone into the base and then the other phone cord from the base to the Vonage phone line and plugged it in. No problmes, I had a dial tone. Then I plugged my Directv DVR phone line from the back of the receiver into the extension base and into the wall. It doesn't advance my system for the welcome..powering up screen. If I put a regular phone in it has a dial tone. Am I doing something wrong. I am beginnnig to wonder if its the box and nothing else. I know Directv will says it because of the phone because they insist it will not work with Vonage because the DVR is an analog system and Vonage is digital. I am sooo confused. I like the savings with Vonage but will be forced to cancel until they work out some agreement with Directv to make it compatable. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks. |

If you can't even get to your Tivo's setup screen I think the tivo is broken, however if you can get to the set-up screen. Go to phone options and set your settings to this:
This is all I changed: Dial Prefix: 2122773895, Call Waiting: ,,#019 Phone Avail: off Dial Tone:On
Only change what is in red, leave the rest alone
And NO DSL Line Filters, and I have my Vonage networked networked through all the exsiting phone jacks. So I don't have the tivo hooked up directly to the Vonage linksys RT.
I did a test call and it worked, then did a contact dvr and it worked too. |

Thanks for responding. I believe my DVR is broken. I am going to get a new one and try it again. Do you know if I can download the receiver from any place with Directv? If it works then I will try the information you gave me. Thanks again. |
