I have just set up my Vonage VOIP using a Linksys RT31P2 router.
This works fine. My question is does anyone have any information on how to disconnect the outside Bellsouth "main line" so I can use my existing phone jacks so I can hook up multiple phones on my VOIP system. I opened the box hooked up to the outside of my house and was afraid to touch anything for fear of screwing something up and/or getting the hell shocked out of me.
My setup ius as folows:
Cox broadband into Linksys RJ45
cordless phone wire into Linksys phone jack
PC NIC cable into Linksys RJ45
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Bob,
If you do a search on this forum, you will find numerous posts on this subject. In addition, you will find detailed instructions on Vonage's help section on this issue as well.
If your NIC outside your home to BellSouth is anything like mine, then all you need to do is unplug the phone jack rj11 plug there. This will disconnect your phone from BellSouth. Of course, if you had multiple lines coming into your home, you might have more than one.
If your NIC is an older model, you will need to disconnect the lines by unscrewing the wires from the terminals. Then you should electrical tape the ends so that no one will reconnect by accident. You might want to check to make sure you BellSouth line is dead by plugging a phone into a jack to see if there is any dialtone. If there is, then you need to wait until BellSouth disconnects your main line.
Hope this helps, mundy5
