PLEASE HELP!!! I have tried and tried to get Xbox Live to work, to no avail. Here is my configuration:

Toshiba PCX1100U ==> Linksys RT31P2 Vonage router ==> Linksys WRT54G wireless router ==> Xbox wireless using a Microsoft MN-740 wireless network card (as well as 3 hard wired and 2 wireless PCs)

The Vonage router is configured to receive an IP address dynamically from the cable modem. It has DHCP disabled and has an available ip address range of 192.168.15.100 through 192.168.15.150.

The Linksys WRT54G is configured to receive it's traffic through static ip address 192.168.15.100 with subnet 255.255.255.0, gateway 192.168.15.1, and DNS servers 24.25.5.52 and 24.25.5.53. It has DHCP disabled and has an available ip address range of 192.168.1.100 through 192.168.1.150.

The 3 hard wired and 2 wireless PCs are TCP/IP are configured to use ip addresses 192.168.1.100 through 192.168.1.104 with subnet 255.255.255.0, gateway 192.168.1.1, and DNS servers 24.25.5.52 and 24.25.5.53. All of these PCs work fine connecting to the internet as well as playing online games like Halo2 and FarCry.

I am using static ip addresses mainly because I am running a web site and an ftp server on one of the machines, and it is a pain to have to reconfigure everything if it gets a new ip address handed to it.

Now, here's the problem. I have tried to connect to Xbox Live using
every possible setup scenario. It connects to the wireless router just fine, but when it tries to connect to the internet, it gets the
standard error "The network gateway could not be reached. Verify the ip addresses match the settings provided by your ISP. I have
configured Xbox Live to use static ip address 192.168.1.120 with subnet 255.255.255.0 and DNS servers 24.25.5.52 and 24.25.5.53, just like all the PCs have. I have also done this with forwarding port 88 UDP, port 3074 UDP, and port 3074 TCP to 192.168.1.120 on the WRT54G and the same ports forwarded to 192.168.15.100 on the Vonage router.

What am I doing wrong? Does Xbox Live just not work with two routers, or using static ip addresses, or both? Am I wasting my time here? I have seen numerous posts here describing this setup and having had success with it, but nobody has posted how they have the routers and the Xbox configured for network settings.

Please Please Please, won't somebody HELP ME?

Well my XBox live connection is behind two routers and works OK.

Basically, you have to treat every connection between devices as its own network, so go through each one logically, and slowly to ensure it's set up right. Here is what I have, step by step.

I have my public IP address from Comcast coming in over my SB5100 (Motorola) Cable modem going into my Motorola VT1000 Voip adapter. I have set up DMZ on the Motorola VT1000 to point to my second Voip adapter's (a Linksys) WAN address (a LAN address from the perspective of the first Motorola adapter). On the 2nd router, the linksys, I forward the same ports you have listed to the static address of the Xbox which is connected to the 2nd adapter. I also have QOS turned on high to this port.

Just look at it one network at a time. The best perspective in today's world of multi-router consumer homes is to act like you are the patch cable. You might be connected to a WAN port on one router and a LAN on the other. Make sure the IP addresses all click and make sense.

From your configuration though, everything looks fine. But just run through it one more time...

Let's start with this... 1) That Toshiba modem is evil. Do a search for Toshiba cable modems and you'll find out that modem drops packets faster than a drunk guy drops dollar bills at a strip club.

2) I'd switch the routers around. The WRT54G is a superior router (download the latest firmware from Linksys, there was a new one relased for it in the past two weeks, I believe). With the WRT immediately after the cable modem and the RT31P2 behind it, your X-box problem should go away, and the RT31P2 will be happy. Just set up the QoS under the Applications and Gaming tab of the WRT configuration screen to give the voice adapter priority (so that you calls won't be interrupted by the other devices)

Or better, download the Sveasoft Alchemy firmware for that WRT54G... you can configure it's DHCP server to hand out IPs by the PC/X-box MAC addresses so they'll always get the same IP.
