I hove all 4 lights lit on Cable Router (normal). I just installed nic card prior to Vonage hook up and my Xp was happy prior to hook up. What should try next? Thanks! |

Assuming that everything is plugged in properly:
If neither your phone or computer Internet is working, unplug your cable modem, wait about 30 seconds, and then plug it back in.
If your computer Internet is still not working or if that's all that was not working in the first place, On Windows XP, go to the command prompt (It's under Start / All Programs / Accessories) or you do Start/Run and type "cmd"
From the command prompt, type the following commands (press enter after each one)
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
Then try your Internet again.

One more thing I forgot to mention. Make sure that only the Vonage router is plugged into your NIC card and not the USB part of the cable modem. The only thing the cable modem plugs into is the Vonage Router. You do not need to use USB anymore.

Soooo yoursaying disconnect the USB and laeve the RJ45 to the RTP#)). Do I need to tell XP anything about the Vonage router ? I did leave the USB hooked up while I tryed to connect soo that explains that. I kept getting a blinking Internet light on RTP300. I have not tryed to hook up phone yet. Can't wait til I get home. Thanks! |

Many cable providers lock your account to your MAC address. This is the network card's serial number, akin to a VIN number on cars. Does the modem work when directly connected to the PC's NIC? If not, call up Adelphia and tell them you just changed computers (yeah, right) and give them the WAN MAC address printed on the bottom of the router. If you're using the RTP300, it's the bottom barcode/number on the side of the router which has the screw keyholes.
If the PC DOES work: with the system connected up as:
cable modem--->router---->PC,
type: http://192.168.1.15/ into your web browser
If you've not changed the passwords yet, the login will be
Username: admin
password: admin
click Log In
On the first tab which shows up, click on MAC Cloning.
Click Clone
Click Save Changes.
At this point, let the router sit for a minute or so and see if you have internet access after that. If that fails to give you internet access, you might need to power-cycle (unplug & plug back in) the router for this to occur. |

For Adelphia, all you have to do is power cycle the cable modem and it will release the MAC address.
