I've been using Vonage since last december and it's been great so far. I haven't had a terrible lot of problems
Today though, I've started to get an odd popping noise on my end. I had called a friend of mine in texas (915) and there was a popping noise and it was cutting off the sound. I could barely hear her... but she said she heard me fine and whatnot.
I called some other people and I had not had this problem. Only with my friend. Could this be a problem with the line on her end or... what?
(I'll try to check back after work. Thanks in advance) |

I just had popping noise like you described on my phonecall to the cable company. The operator I spoke with could not hear the noises when I asked her... but on my end it was every few seconds a loud digital popping noise in the earpiece.
I have cable internet hooked into a linksys WRT54G (latest firmware) with Quality of Service settings for the port where the vonage TAP Moto. VT1005V is plugged in.
The QoS settings I have are priority : high, flow control : disable.
I have had the modem going directly into the TAP then into the Router before but I found that when my rommate got online or if there were any large files downloaded I would drop lose bits of the conversation on both ends. I discovered that using a router with Quality of Service could enable both of us to be online at the same time downloading huge files and I could still make voice calls without losing a single word. Then THIS happened.
Can anyone either a) determine the cause of the popping noises or b) suggest a better setup? |

I've been a customer for just a month, and yesterday evening I called Apple computer and had the same popping noise on that call. It was only on the one call and seemed to only be on my end. Perhaps some issue with a Vonage server? Seems to be okay now. |

This happened to me a few times last night and today. Only to certain telephone numbers.
It always happens on those numbers though.
It happens if I call 1-800-etrade1
as well as a few others. |

I called the etrade number and also get the popping noise - same as when I called Apple's 800 number yesterday. It is definitely reproducible. Now if we only knew why it happens... |

I just called my brother and got no pops. Then I called the bank. (800 number) Neither call gave me the popping noises so I think whatever was happening before was fixed.
Edit: I also called etrade and only got a slight amount of distortion. Nothing like the popping I was getting yesterday. |

Today and yesterday I got the popping noise several times when placing outgoing calls from California to Texas. It got so bad that the line disconnected followed by a busy signal. I reported this in that thread as well.
After weeks with no problems, it seems I have both the popping noise and disconnect->busy signal issues. |

My wife reports the popping noise particularly on certain local calls. She hears them but not the person on the other side of the connection.
On a separate matter, she is also reporting that callers on the other end of the line can't hear her sometimes but she hears them just fine. |

I also get that scenario one in twenty times where the person cannot hear me but I can hear him/her.. I guess there are glitches in the system that need to be ironed out....probably a problem in the way the call was routed.
