I just got the .16 upgrade too. I had a reboot over the weekend and the pushed it out to me to see if it might stabalize the MTA when in front of the router.

One thing I have noticed is that there is now a DMZ option on the MTA under Advanced. Did this just appear or is it something new? I'm curious about it as the MTA has prevented some old network games that I used to play from working. This could possibly fix it for me if I have to leave it in front of the WGR614v2.

The other thing the tech informed me of is that it appears the Netgear is cutting off the MTA connection when it's behind the router due to the constant communication checks back to Vonage. He feels the router is considering it to be a DOS attack and shutting the access down. Appearantly there is a switch in some routers (he named Linksys) that can adjust the threshold to a greater value and the problem goes away. He couldn't find a switch in the WGR614 nor the WGR624. Does this sound like a line of BS or does anyone think this may be a good question to send to Netgear?

Either way... I'll let the MTA stay in front and see if it's more stable for now. I don't feel like shelling out the $50+ for a wired router to stick it behind just yet.

I broke down and and bought D-Link DI604 Router that I run my MTA and Netgear WGT624 thru.

After rebates, it is only $20.00 at OfficeDepot.

The last 2 days I've not had any problems. The service has been there when I need it.

The only solution with MTA firmware 1.16 was to put the MTA in front of the router but that would not let me VPN into work.

So far putting the D-LINK router infront of both the MTA and Netgear Router has solved my issues.

When you set up the DI-604, did you use the firewall rules to allow the 2 udp ranges + udp 53 & udp 69 or use the DMZ option and did the MTA pick up a dhcp address from your router or did you assign one.

Thank you

I went and purchased a DLink DI-604 but from Best Buy. Same sale price after rebate. Netgear can bite me. Their tech support has sent me instruction on setting up the WGR614 as an access point 3 times now. Each time I tell that I already did this and DHCP does not pass through.

Either way, I configured my DI-604 to use UPNP and the MTA is using DHCP. I have had zero internet drop offs and the MTA has been alive for more than a week now. I'll continue to monitor it, but I think I finally found my solution.

Why do the devices need udp ports 53 (dns) and 69 (tftp) open for incoming traffic? Do they use tftp to get their configurations?

Just wondering.

They do use TFTP to retrieve configs/updates.

For those of you having issues, have you tried loading the latest firmware 4.0.4 and resetting factory defaults?

I setup my WGT624v2 (w/Cisco ATA) this morning, and seem to be doing just fine. Been making and receiving calls with no problems, spending up-to a good hour on some...

What I may also be doing differently is that my Cisco ATA connects through the wireless network, via a wireless bridge...

This is terrible... i spent 4 hours trying to figure out what was going wrong with my v1000t but now i know im not alone on the boat of the WGT624 hell.

The phone works fine for about 1/2 hour then i dies unless i reset the router.

I cant even login my v1000t

192.158.102.1

Did you guys ever resolve the problem?

Txs,
Mike

This is horrible... so frustrated with this router I cant even type right.

Tried everything possible within my knowledge...this thing just keeps killing my MTA... I was on the phone testing for 45 minutes and got a dead line.

Thats that its going back to the store and will get a D-Link.

any suggestions on any D-Link wireless routers?

Txs in advance,
Mike

response:

I wonder if we are all beta-test guinea pigs trying out this stuff

Some have problems with Netgear, others with D-link

Sometimes we get good tech support, sometimes Net2phone type tech non-support.

Here is a suggestion:

Since there are opportunities for so much hardware conflict , perhaps Vonage might wish to consider having a Cable Modem + Router + Voice Terminal ......all tested for compatibility and sent to customers

Then, Vonage could truly expect us to forget about the Telephone Company.

If anyone from Vonage is reading.....do you agree?

I agree with you JC ...

Well i read D-Link DI-624 is also a headache

so afeter looking all over LinkSys, Motorola, D-Link, and Netgear I found Belkin.

I got the Belkin F5D7230-4 Wireless and within 2 minutes i configured the VT1005V, my wireless Laptop, My wife's PC, and My PC. Cool

Well so far so good with the MTA, no reboots so far or glitches.

All the ports i need work except 8080 for my WebCam.
I went to the Belkin site and they have 24/7 online chat for support ( I like that type of support).

Didnt get a solution to the port 8080 but I can leave without that as long as my Vonage works.

To conclude: The router is $80 - $45 rebate = $35 bucks from my local store
