Hi,

I'm an avid Vonage user, signed up a year ago, and have had few problems. Over the past month or so (especially the last 2 weeks), I've experienced a slew of service and customer service problems. I'm a patient person, and understand that things don't always work the way they are supposed to, but there comes a time when it's just ridiculous.

My current problems include (and by current I mean the last 2 weeks).

- about 60% of the time the phone rings forever but doesn't ring on the other end, or gives me a busy signal, or "All Circuits are busy."

- the rare occasion I get through, my caller ID now always displays as "Restricted Call"

- I experience regular disconnects. Not bandwidth limitation disconnects, I hear a fax-like beeping followed by a loud screach, and then a "click."

- My Call Forwarding isn't working right, it rings my Vonage line for 1 ring then forwards to cell phone. If I maky my forwarding time longer, it still forwards in 1 ring. If I turn off forwarding, it hangs up on the incoming call after 1 ring.

- Sending and receiving of faxes failes all the time (outgoing ones ring forever just like outgoing calls)

So, this morning I called Vonage to talk to them about these problems, only to find out after a 3 hour on-hold time (using my cell-phone nonetheless) that the customer service reps are limited because the Vonage phone lines themselves are down. I submitted an email ticket 3 days ago, and got no human response.

I'm a computer professional, and have run extensive Voip, bandwidth, and connection tests to make sure this isn't on my line. Everything passes with flying colors.

I would love to continue using Vonage if they would fix these problems. I've never asked for a refund or credit (although it would be nice since my cell-phone bill will be much higher), but that's a risk you take when relying on Voip as a primary line, so I'm prepared for those consequences.

Nonetheless, I'm paying $40 a mo for a few cool blinking lights on my desk... no real service here.

I called in last night and did get through. They said something about doing work on the server I am on this week. Needless to say, my service is still not functioning properly.

I will wait it out and see if things are better when the server is back on.

I will PM you my account number now. Thanks,

Josh

Similar experience here. Over the past (almost) one year, when service worked, it worked pretty well and subjectively speaking, at one time we were probably 90-95% satisfied. But that is beginning to erode. Somewhere around July, we started to notice a significant increase in miscellaneous problems which are beginning to shake our faith in the service. Increasingly, we've had to rely more on the cell phone, and it's become somewhat "normal" to have at least 2-3 calls per week roll to the network availability number for no apparent reason.

Our inbound callers have been plagued with "all circuits are busy" messages since late March. After approx. 2 dozen emails with tier 3 support citing specific dates/times/call_from/call_to information, they think they've found the issue (with XO). Let's hope so.

We've also seen an increasing number of rings-forever-no-answer problems when calling outbound. (when we know the receiving party, such as our neighbor across the street, is home and not on the phone)

I've noticed that an increasing number of inbound calls are listed as "Wireless Caller", even when the caller is on a POTS line. Our non-Vonage lines (our POTS and my cell phone) list the callerID correctly, so the issue appears to be unique to Vonage. We also have just started seeing callers listed as "Error" even though the call comes through fine.... also started in mid-July.

We've been experiencing substantially more clicks, pops, and echoes in the past few weeks. TestMyVoIP.com shows our QoS at 98-99% consistently. Long-term PingPlotter tests (current test has been running for 33 days) show consistently low latency and virtually non-existent packet loss. Also, callers have complained that when they dial our number, they intermittently get a squealing tone similar to a modem/fax, but not exactly. Several of them have our number on speed dial, so we know it was not a mis-dial.

We've gotten several ring-once-to-vonage-line then roll-to-network-availability-number calls within the past few days. PingPlotter (polling every 10 seconds) shows 0% packet loss and very low latency every time this has happened.

3 hours? Wow......

I like the idea of Voip and will stick with it (for now), because I've always been somewhat of an early adopter of technology. But I must say, living with Vonage as our primary service has turned the telephone from "it always works, no matter what" (even thru 4 hurricanes last year) to something that's actually a little less reliable than my cell phone. (gasp!)

Glad I'm not the only one.

Like I mentioned, I'm an IT professional developing technology of my own, so I understand that things go up and down all the time... but there needs to be stability, especially on services that need consistent use.

I also like to be on or infront of upcoming technology, and I firmly believe that Voip is an infant predecessor of what is coming in the near future. That's why I'm sticking with them.

I also am showing almost no packet loss on latency tests, I'm fairly confident it's not on my end, especially since Vonage themselves are telling me they are doing server work.

Anyone else having this issue as well?

I have the experience of getting a dialtone for a minute or two, and then losing the connection. Then I have to reboot to get the dialtone again for a minute or two. Not sure what this is related to. If I only wanted to make less than 2 minute phone calls, I'd be all set.

I am looking into the alternatives at this point.
