My husband and myself are moving to France for 6 months. We would like to continue using Vonage and retain our existing UK number. I am assuming that it simply a matter of connecting the new modem and Vonage router ? We will have a local french phone line and a french adsl broadband service. Has anyone else got any experience of this or something similar ? |

It works fine, exactly as you described.
I have tried it a little further afield on business trips. No problems. |

Some named VivGriffin posted a question a few months ago about wanting to use their Vonage line while on business for 6 months in France. Are you still out there? Were you able to get this to work? I have a similar situation. I need phone numbers for both my offices in Dallas, USA and in Paris, France. I spend 95% of my time in Paris so the calls need to ring in France on my home # or via computer. Is this possible? How? Thanks, Mary |

Yes - we stayed in France for 3 months, in the end. We had an adsl connection with Neuf Telecom (just 512k as we were in the countryside - middle of nowhere). Vonage worked fine. We used our UK power supply (for the router) and just plugged it into a French adaptor. We are in Torquay, Devon now and are having more problems here than we did in France. I am left with the impression that adsl in France is better than in the UK. |

We have had a US account working in France for a year. We have France Telecom ADSL. It works fine. One of the best things about living here - having a US phone # so our family can reach us and access to the entire US for the one monthly payment. |

We have a UK Vonage subscription and have brought the VT2442 box out with us to connect to our France Telecom/Wanadoo broadband here in the Minervois just north east of Carcassonne. Three weeks have passed.
First impressions were quite good but then we got calls that would not go through to USA and UK, lines not being dropped for 15-20 minutes at the end of calls to the UK, and some occasional quality issues which might be down to the 1 meg line with other simultaneous data traffic on it.
We are unconvinced and a little disappointed. Is there a way of prioritising voice. I posted our lines not getting dropped problem on this forum but did not get a satisfactory answer. |

I am using a Linksys Router reflashed with dd-wrt software. I programmed the router to give priority to the port that my Voip adapter is on and there was a tremendous improvement. In my case, however, I was putting my own packets ahead of my own packets. If the problem is an overtaxed network capacity generally, this could be a problem. There is a school of thought that running a Voip connection through a VPN will improve the quality of the call, but it doesn't really make much sense to me.

Hello, I was read some answers here about the use of Vonage router in France, I brought my Vonage router from USA and for a couple of days now I'm trying with no sucess conect the Vonage router with the Livebox. How you have done?
Basically, I plug one end of my phone cord and conected in the Vonage router (line 1)and the other I keep in the phone, than I pluged the ethernet cord on the Wan (Vonage router) and the other end of the ethernet cord on the extra space in the livebox for ethernet( the red one). But nothing happens. I also try other ways , but dind't work out.
Could any one of you that made this tell how to do? I really need use my number in USA.
Thank you all!! |

I presume that you have tried plugging a computer into one of the lan ports on your Vonage router and making sure that you have a good connection. Have you tried plugging your Vonage router directly into the ethernet port on the Free unit? Have you done the basics like making sure that you don't have an old US connection setting plugged into the Vonage router, etc?
My best friend had a similar setup to yours and had no problem on free. |
