I'd like to see the number pop up on screen. More generally, something robust on the PC to concurrently work with calls.

Lot's of corporate VOIP-PBX solutions have something like this. A toolbar app is installed and connects to a service on the PBX server. When the phone rings, a dialog box pops up and gives you the callerID info.

At the very least, it would be cool if Vonage had a client side app which connected to a service, to (at least) display info already available on the Dashboard. An incoming call, new voicemails (and playback) etc, should be very easy to do. Maybe this exists, I haven't seen it though. And no, I'm not talking about a "softphone".

Other cool features I can think of are address books, so that I can click on someone's name, my phone will ring, I pick it up, and it's connecting me to the contact I clicked on. Or when an incoming call comes up right clicking on it and saying "send to voicemail", "forward to cell phone", etc.

If any devs or people with power at Vonage are reading this, please use java so us linux people can use it too Smile

I am going to pitch my own C2C extension for Firefox here since you posted the McGrof one.

McGrof:
  1. Allows the selection of Vanity numbers 1-800-Vonage-Help for dialing.
  2. Looks up Vonage from numbers from web site.

Mine (scerruti):
  1. Does not require selection of number. Will provide a list of numbers when more than one is available on the page. Right clicking on a number or near a number will typically allow it to be dialed.
  2. Works with Thunderbird including the Address book.

There may be other differences:
Does mcgrof handle 7 digit numbers assuming a call local to your from number?
Can it format a number for international dialing? (I am unsure if C2C supports international dialing)

Caller ID on screen

I haven't read through this whole thread, but thought I'd let everyone know what I have going here.

I plugged the Vonage Phone line into a Caller ID compatible modem. I run a wonderful $15 program called CallClerk. When a call is received, it pops up a window with the Caller ID info, opens my Outlook contact (if the caller is in there), and then announces the caller's name and number with text-to-voice.

To top things off, it even sends an email to my mobile phone with the Caller ID information to notify me of the call.

I would love to have a Windows App that would display Call Status. It should be able to to update my Instant Messenger status to say if I was on the phone. If the phone is ringing, it should be able to show me a callerID popup, and preferrably have a button to send the person directly to voice mail, or forward them to a differetn number. If I'm already on the phone, and getting call waiting callerID, I should be able to put one call on hold, and answer the second call, or do other call management. (Send the new call to another line so a different family member can answer that call?)
