OK, I'm getting pretty close to cancelling Vonage and this whole Voip experiment.

First I get the RT31P2 which worked OK for 3 days before it broke. Spent nearly 2 hours on the phone with Tech Support before they acknowledged that the router was bad.

I receive my RTP300 today and it seems to work, I make a quick test call to my cell. 3 minutes later I go to make an outgoing call and I get no dial tone, just some incessant beeping that sounds like this.

I've tried to reset the router back to the "factory" settings several times, but the only thing that seems to help is to unplug the router's power and plug it back in. And the router only seems to be able to make or receive calls for a minute or two before it stops working again.

Anybody ever see this problem? I'd like to keep Vonage and save some $$$ on my phone bill, but this is getting ridiculous. Luckily I still have my land line (but it's supposedly getting ported).

What's your network config?

My RTP300 arrived today and has performed amazingly well. I put a bit over an hour on it today without any hiccup, longest call was 25 minutes. I will say that the menus & such on the router don't seem to be of full production quality, but the voice side has been good so far, at least for me.

OK, I may have a happy ending after all. Called "Tech Support" again and they re-script-ed me. Had me change turn voicemail off and then on, in the Vonage portal, and then swapped me over to phone port 2 and everything seems to be working now.

BTW, my network topology is 15/2 FIOS --> Linux Server (also runs my VPN software) --> 1000/100/10 switch --> Linksys RTP300 --> phone. The tech said that I should forward TCP/UDP traffic on port 10000 to the router. Does anybody else do this? Things seem to be working without the port fowarding.

if you're not having problems, you might be able to skip the port forwards... but if you start experiencing problems, that'd be the first thing I'd check.

Here's what Vonage recommends:
Note: Firewall rules that conflict with the phone adapters Internet ports will cause a disruption in service. Only if you configured specific firewall rules and are familiar with the configuration, please allow the following ports for the phone adapter; otherwise your router does not need extra firewall rules.
Phone Adapters Internet ports:

* 5060 through 5063 using UDP protocol
* 123 using UDP protocol
* 69 using UDP protocol
* 53 using UDP protocol
* 10,000 through 20,000 using UDP protocol
