I am looking into Vongae to get rid off the evil qwest and am wondering what the difference is between what Vonage send as the 'phone adapter' and what I can get at a retail store and also what are some retail stores?
Thanks

To the best of my knowledge:

All products made by Linksys

From Vonage directly:
RTP300 - 4 port router w/2 phone ports

Retail:
PAP2 - phone adapter with 2 phone ports, no router capabilities
WRTP54G - 4 port routerwith 802.11G wireless access point, 2 phone ports

I'd say get the router from Vonage directly... that way, if anything goes wrong, they overnight you a new one rather than you having to deal with one of the big box stores return lines (and rude employees).

I got my RT31P2 from Vonage, I can't access any of my machines from outside the local network, and Vonage says I have to go pick one up from a retail store.

Call them back, be nice about it, and they'll probably send you a new one, especially if your Vonage phone service isn't working (hint, hint)

you're the man. i'm on the 25 minute hold queue now, will post results.

edit: btw, do you know if Vonage sends out the PAP2? that'd be muuuuch better than sending me another RT.

Cool

They said they would send me the RTP300 with no problem (a stark difference from the tune whistled by yesterday's supervisor, but since i have an additional Motorola phone adapter here (which they sent us a Cisco ATA to replace, still functions tho), they switched the mac address on the account from the RT31 to the Motorola VT1000 to see if that works. Ideally, I would prefer a phone adapter to an additional router anyway, and if this works, problem solved. If it doesn't work, then I have to call them back so they send me the RTP300.

I'm just using my RTP300 as a phone adapter. Literally, hooked it up, turned on remote administration, and it's been working ever since. I have used it at a few offices with my laptop plugged into it and didn't have a problem. Most of the time it lives behind my WRT54GS and just has a phone hooked up to it.
