I was watching TechTV today (The Screensavers), and a guy called in wanting to know how he could do something with his Voip. I didn't even know that I could get Voip already.
Anyway, they mentioned Vonage on t.v., so I went and signed up. Unfortunately, I saw this forum afterwards, so I wont get the 2nd month free, but thats ok I guess.
But hope all works out for me, from what I have read here, seems like everyone is enjoying the service. I have Charter Pipeline 2.0mb cable, so it should be good.
Got my phone number already and setup voicemail, and anxious to try it.
See ya |

I'm going to respond since it seems like most times people just comes to forums to solve problems or ****. I've had Vonage since August and have had no problems that I can remember. Only a few times I've had the other party complain at me sounding broken up and that only last for a few seconds. Also I run a web/email server on the same DSL line that only has 384k up with no QOS involved. I'd say all in all I've been VERY happy with the service. I only hope that Vonage plans accordingly to grow and doesn't outgrow what they can handle until they are ready. |

I like mine, and once I get around to moving it behind my router, I think it'll get better.
When you're ready for the big time, though, Charter may be offering Voip in your area soon. (already got 2 markets up with primary line service.)
Best of luck to ya! |

That is cool, didnt know that was in the works. I will most likely be moving by the first of the month. The good thing is, I will be only moving about 5 blcoks away. I will still be in Charter's area, and the new place is brand new and wired for Charter cable. When I move, I will just disconnect the phone line from the telco, and use the in-house wiring for Voip.

I'm glad to tell everyone how happy I am with Vonage service. The Customer Service leaves a bit to be desired as far as hold times and knowledge, but they're still better than Qworst. I transfered my number from Qwest as soon as number portability became available in my area and I've never looked back. If you're thinking about Vonage, get it, try it out. You'll be very happy with the service! |

Yes, it is. The best part is cutting out Ma Bell from the loop! With a Cable or other broadband telephony provider (ala Vonage), you are entirely cutting out the RBOCS (until you call one of their customers of course.) That's an amaizing thing and I'm proud to be a Vonage Subscriber. (I won't be servicable when we move into my area
I hope moving the MTA behind my router solves the lost connection problem. Otherwise it's been great!!! |

My experience with Vonage has been very positive as well - and I can't tell you all how awesome it was to tell Qwesrt to get the hell out of my life. I was sick of literally paying $13/month in 'taxes and fees' on a phone line that was $14.88/month!
Vonage definitely isn't for everybody. I think it probably works well for the vast majority of people with reliable broadband. But I must say, when I first got Vonage, my ISP was giving me problems, and thus I was VERY frustrated with Vonage. It's frustrating when you can't call technical support for help because your only phone line is attached to the problem!
But again, if your broadband connection is reliable, you'll love Vonage, I think. Frankly, it was my fault that I got broadband, and then Vonage just days later. I didn't have my internet connection secured before I decided to rely on it for telephone service. That was stupid. But once again, if you know your internet connection is stable, Vonage will generally be quite satisfactory.
The bottom line for me is the benefits of Vonage's service FAR FAR FAR exceed any of Vonage's disadvantages. I am glad I don't have to pay a phone company that is regularly under criminal investigation anymore (Qwest). I would tell my Qwest story, but it needs its own forum.
For me to say that I am satisfied with Vonage's service is a gross understatement. I admit, I'm a phone geek - but Vonage is incredibly practical, and it enables me to use my broadband internet connection to actually save me money.
I love it. |

People don't post unless they have problems. So for every "I hate Vonage" post there could be 10 users who love it. Or 100. Or 1000 - who knows?
Personally I love it. The only problem I had was that I had to set it up behind my router. I lose the QoS stuff but the quality seems fine with high speed cable internet. Before we moved the quality was questionable behind the router but I was on depressingly slow Verizon DSL (768/128). |

I havn't had a problem since I put the Moto box behind my Linksys router. I suspect the problem is with the NAT routing within the Moto box. Perhaps a firmware upgrade can fix this. Please post your results. I'm interested to see what happens. |
