Greetings all.
I just moved into a new townhome w/my girlfriend, where we're currently using a Linksys BEFSX41 cable firewall/router for our connection to the net. I would like to get a wireless networking setup going that would be Vonage-ready, so to speak, since I plan on signing up once we're all settled in.
I'm just a little confused as to whether I should get an access point to attach to the current router, or if I should get a new wireless router/firewall entirely. In either case, I am also not sure as to which model to get that would cause the least amount of heartache. I've been very happy with my current Linksys router so far, so I'm cool with sticking with Linksys.
The other thing to note is that the townhome is 3 floors, with the bottom floor being above grade. All the computer equipment is on the bottom floor. Are there any foreseeable problems with the router sitting on the bottom floor?
Any info would be greatly appreciated. |

I had an issue with the BEFSX41 and the Motorola adapter that Vonage provided where I was unable to place the MOT adapter in front of the BEFSX41. I don't remember exactly I was unable to do but something didn't work if I remember. In order to use the MOT adapter I had to place it behind the Linksys and poke some holes for Vonage through it. I ended up buying a WRT54GP2 to handle my wireless, router, and Vonage. BTW: Vonage sends you a new router when you sign up. It isn't wireless so all you should need to buy is an access point that you can hook up to the router they'll send you if you want. |

Thanks for the response.
How has your experience been with the WRT54GP2 from a networking and Voip perspective? |

I've been fairly happy with the WRT54GP2. The first time I hooked it up I had a couple of connectivity issues but I think that was due to the unit performing firmware updates for the first time. I have noticed that the wireless is a bit less in range than my WAP54G but I ended up using the WAP54G as a wireless repeater on the upper level of the house. I've been able to get rid of three devices with this one so my clutter from cables and power adapters is much less. |
