I recieved my Vonage equipment last Thursday. I had everything up and running in no time. Everything was good, and had crystal clear calls.

Then yesterday my wife send me an email work, saying that there is a lot of static on the line, and it is still there today. I tried re-booting everything, no improvement. Tried adjusting the Bandwidth Saver setting, no improvement. Switched from port forwarding to port triggering, no improvment.

So I tried called tech support, and while I was on hold the music was crystal clear? Hung up after about 10 ten minute and sent email to tech support instead, but haven't heard anything back yet.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

are you using a cordless phone? I've noticed static as well from time to time and I've found that it's my cordless phone that is the culprit. I've ordered a new 5 mghz Vtech phone so maybe that will clear up my issue and something for you to look at...

I tried two other phones last night with no improvement, and it was working great (with this phone) for three days. Then on day four, we have static.

Also, why would a call to tech support be crystal clear? I also called into voicemail, and that was clear as well. So it seems to be working fine, as long as I stay on the network.

Could weather be factor here? I live in Minnesota and we did recieve some snow yesterday, but I don't see how weather could be a factor..

IF you've ruled out the phones then my next guess would be network congestion.

Being that a nasty virus is going around right causing serious network congestion.. this could be the cause of the static.

Have you run any speed tests while your experiencing this static on the line?

If you're talking Vonage line to Vonage line, it sometimes will be a clearer call. That's what I've encountered when we were troublshooting a bandwidth problem.

The problem is with the router. I have a 4.9 MB download with a 400K upload (good enough for 5 concurrent high quality conversations) and still had static. Vonage is aware that there is a major problem concerning the router, and I would venture to say with their service. Customer gives me a 'leave if you want to' attitude and probably because they know they are cheaper than any other service. My guess is that AT&T, SBC, Time Warner... and so on will continue to be more competitive and eventually lower their price and stregthen their service to be as good or better than Vonage and Vonage will lose all customers. Or Vonage will do something about their service. We'll see.

they aren't cheaper than any other service by far. packet8 alone is $20.55 per month (including taxes). sunrocket's yearly plan works out to 16 per month, and their monthly plan is 24.95 (including taxes). these are just a couple. there are more, just look.
this is probably the "major problem" they were talking about (not that it appears to be your problem)

There is a known problem with the linksys RT chipset that causes this. A new adapter is being made and should be available in May and it will fix this problem and a few other ones. One think you can try to plugging a regular corded phone into line 2 and leaving it off the hook all the time, this should take the static away from line 1. (Don't ask me how).

Is this only a problem with certain adaptors? Is there any plan to replace adaptors for people how are having these problems when the new one comes out?

as far as replacements, there are people on this board with their 4th and 5th devices because of this same problem. so yeah they'll send you one. you may get stuck with shipping.
