As of August 1st Vonage will no longer be shipping out the RT31P2 as a replacement device, all of the replacement device for Vonage will be the new Linksys RTP300.

For the hacker types:

RTP300 firmware source:
ftp://ftp.linksys.com/opensourcecode/RTP300/1.00.37/rtp300_cyt_1_00_37_gpl.tgz

Looks like it might just be a WRTP54G sans wireless.

I can't necessarily condone this, but there's plenty of ways that your RT31P2 can be "defective". There's plenty of posts in the forum to tell all the lovely things that could be wrong with it. Twisted Evil

I've only had the RT31P2 connected for a couple of hours so far, so I don't have any complaints yet. Smile

It is sitting behind my existing router and will only be used as a phone adapter, so that should help minimize my exposure to the problems that others have been seeing anyway...

I've been having line noise/interference issues with my RT31P2. Usually not terrible, but annoying. It has on occasion been rather bad, so I've got them sending an RTP300... hopefully the analog portion of it is better designed than the RT31P2. At the very least, the router portion of the RTP300 runs on linux, so maybe it'll be a decent router after a few firmware revisions, 'though the only time I see myself using the router portion is when I'm at a hotel and only have one ethernet connection.

I didn't think Vonage ever updated their website, but this went up rather quickly:

I think I may have jinxed myself. My new RT31P2 was working fine this morning when I made a phone call.

Then a few minutes later, I had no dialtone and none of the LED's on the RT31P2 were on. I vaguely remembered reading that some had reported an overheating problem with this unit, so I unplugged it for a while. When I plugged it back in about an hour later, the LED's came on for a few seconds and then died and went dark. I also noticed a burning smell...

Looks like my RT31P2 is toast. Sad Considering that I've had Vonage for 1 day, this isn't exactly leaving me warm and fuzzy about Vonage.
