Hi all- Here's my chain: Cable Modem (Motorola SB5120) to Linksys RT31P2, ethernet to Linksys BEFW11S4 (wireless router), ethernet to desktop computer. (WinXP sp2). All computers can access the internet, and Voip works beautifully.
My question is: I'm not able to find my laptop through my wireless network. (Can't find my desktop via the laptop and vice versa) The laptop can access the internet, however I cannot share files and printer anymore. I have browsed this forum for a good hour searching for an answer, any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. |

Since all your PC(s) and laptop can access the internet, it sounds like thay are getting issued IP addresses correctly.
Do you still have this issue without the RT31P2 in place? It shouldn't make any difference, but it's a place to check.
Do you have any Firewalling turned on in Windows XP? Try disabling the XP Firewall on your network card. How to Enable/Disable Windows Internet Connection Firewall
Do you have any MAC filtering turned on on your BEFW11S4? I have seen this have an effect on that type of connectivity in the past. Is your BEFW11S4 using the latest firmware? Linksys Downloads
You may also want to try to get the latest Windows Updates from Windows Update, if all your PC's are using Windows XP, then I would use Microsoft Update v6 |

I have no firewalling up, and was having no problems with the BEFW11S4 (wireless) as my only router. Right now I'm trying to remember how to access the wireless router's setup options... |

If you still have the default configs on it, it should be at http://192.168.1.1 and the default password is: admin |

Trusted IP's for network sharing (make sure McAfee firewall if you have it) is @ [192.168.1.101 & 192.168.1.255] this covers any IP's between 1-255
and make sure that the box is checked for "Make all computers on your LAN trusted" sounds to me as there is a firewall installed that is causing problems (one you may have forgotten about as extra precaution) if this is ok ,meaning all firewalls trusted or disabled (temporarily) then
On the XP,Go to "Help and support", "Pick a task" and finally, "use tools to view your computer information and diagnose problems" the go to "Network Diagnostics" and scan the main computer {with lap top on} read these results make sure ""Network Adapters"" passed
Next go to "My Network Places" and go through the Network Tasks for setting up a wireless network be sure you added a computer to your network with same work group name but different system user names once the computers can find each other, the file and printer sharing must be enabled @ both computers
Adding a computer to a network should be done in reverse order assuming you have already gone through the steps of adding acomputer to your network Happy vonaging Hope this narrows it down colvard9 |

I just thought of this.....
Where is your PC connected? The RT31P2 or the BEFW11S4?
Your PC should be connected to the BEFW11S4 for it to work properly, otherwise if it's connected to the RT31P2 the BEFW11S4 is firewalling that connection.
Modem -> RT31P2 -> BEFW11S4 -> Laptop (Wireless) & PC(s) Wired. |

I love simple solutions. Thanks for the help. All it took was to reconnect my PC to the wireless router instead of the Voip router. Wow, all my network connections work, printers are accessable through my wireless home network, and my TiVo can make it's daily updates! No one sneeze or this could all come tumbling down! Thanks again. |

Would you mind being a little more specific with the configuration and connections? 1. RT31P2: a) Internect connection type b) Local IP c) Subnet Mask d) DHCP server; range c) any DMZ or port forwarding? 2. BEFW11S4: same as 1.
3. Connection between them: RT LAN to BE WAN or RT LAN to BE LAN?
Thanks a lot for your help, |
