great idea billhigh.

I just set up my Vonage to simulring instead of call forward. So it is simulringing my Vonage and google voice. So if it is a blocked number, then google voice should block the call immediately, and I may get 1/2 ring on my Vonage phone. iF it is not a blocked number, then I have my Vonage voice mail set to answer after 20 sec which is 5 sec less than the default google voice mail setting..
This may be better way to set it up since you only have to hear a 1/2 ring on Vonage phone, if number is blocked.
I let you know how it goes.

ok that works. The blocked numbers make 1/2 ring on Vonage phone, and don't even leave a caller id, except on google voice.

I understand you can also buy some phones like panasonic cordless that have phone number blocking but haven't tried that.

the similring goes rings google voice and Vonage phone simultaneously but for some reason , it only rings once or twice on the Vonage phone before going to vm, even though I have it set for 30 sec before vm.
It only has this problem when simulring is enabled, otherwise the time set before vm works.
anyone have this problem with simulring?

They keep telling me "We are going to get it"

I should be able to go to my dashboard and block specific numbers or numbers that start with * or unknown or private - whatever I want. I cannot believe that they still do not have something like this.

I guess with Gmail offering free Voip that this will change soon....

I can only hope

this Uniden corded/cordless combo seems to be the best solution until Vonage offers call blocking.
I am trying mine out so I can't post my review yet, but from the reviews posted at above link, it seems to work perfectly to block up to 20 numbers without any ringing whatsoever. The panasonic models apparently still ring once and give a busy signal to caller, whereas the Uniden gives a reject tone.

So... after reading the posts from "user1" about using Google Voice to block numbers, I tried it and.... it didn't work. The problem is that GV picks up immediately after the call is forwarded to it. So if you use the Simul-Ring from Vonage or the Call Forward with only a 1 second ring, GV answers it after only one ring. That's fine for all the calls that you WANT to block. But if Mom is calling, I want to have a chance to answer it. And if I set Vonage to Call Forward after 20 seconds of ringing or something, then I still have to hear the phone ring for 20 seconds every time a charity or survey calls! I get about 2 unwanted calls every night - I swear it's way worse now than before the DoNotCall list was ever started. Sad

teresa, when I first used the forwarding to gv, it worked as I stated, but then later on , it seemed to start working as u say. I don't see why gv is now recognizing a forwarded call differently from a normal incoming call .

In any case, I am using the uniden now as I stated in my last post, and it does work as advertised. The only recognition of an incoming blocked call is the lcd showing the caller id, nothing else, no sound. The phone seems to be top notch so far . My only complaint is the keypad on the base has stiff uncomfortable buttons, but the handset keypad is much better.
It even gives options for changing the tone of the audio from low to high pitch.

I bought a refurbished unit and it appears to be a new unit with only a minor cosmetic defect.

I've been using the uniden for a couple of weeks now . Caller id doesn't get transmitted until after first ring which is the reason the panasonic makes one ring even on blocked calls. The uniden gets around this by not making any sound on the first ring on any calls. So the lcd lights up with the caller id on all calls but the first ring is silent on the uniden on all calls. Call blocking works great and it will also block unknown and private caller id.
Also for recording calls, I found I couldn't use my digiital recorder with suction cup on the base handset as it just doesn't transmit very well . However the same apparatus does work fine on an extension handset. So while talking on the base handset, I can record the call with digital recorder and suction cup on an extension handset with the talk button on.

PostPosted: Tue Nov 23, 2010 4:09 pm    Post subject: Any word on how to properly configure GV and Vonage to block Reply with quote Back to top

I have tried the settings that user1 mentions in this post and run into the same issues as teresa as well. It seems that GV is now recognizing the Vonage number differently. Is there a better way to configure this so that I can block a handful of numbers using GV and Vonage?? I really need to get this working and it seems odd that we can't figure out how to "break" the loop of Vonage-->GV-->Vonage. Please, any one who has this working, explain how your settings are configured.

Thanks,
Dubhead Eek
