Until that happens, call blocking is one feature of
Voip
Recorder, and VR is available now and works with
Vonage
. You can block based on caller number or caller-id name (or any portion thereof).
VR is software, so you need to have your computer turned on, but it works with your ordinary ATA and doesn't require that you obtain any funky hardware (like modems or obsolete networking hubs). Your ATA and a standard home internet router is all it takes.
Free trial (not even a registration required) at
http://www.penbaynetworks.com/
- VR is available for Windows, OS X, and Linux.
Thanks for this tip! I've been begging
Vonage
for selective call blocking but they don't seem to get the fact that this is something people want. Despite being on both my state's and the federal do-not-call lists, I still get tons of solicitor calls. The one this morning at 8:30 AM from a company that calls at least four times a day pushed me over the limit.
I just bought VR and it works great! This is such a relief.

Post subject: Still waiting for this featue
I am really shocked to see that 5 years of threads about this feature request and
Vonage
still has not implemented it. Not only is this feature much wanted, but it seems like it would be quite trivial to implement for them.
Just continuing to keep this thread alive in the hopes
Vonage
will get the (5 year old!) message that users want this feature!
In the meantime, I'll be looking for a HW solution as I don't want to have to keep the computer on 24x7, plus I use a Mac so there probably aren't so many SW choices for this specialized software.

Post subject: Its time for an email campaign to request call blocking
Since it would appear that
Vonage
is ignoring customers on this forum, it is time for some more proactive actions to add call blocking.
If you want to help add call blocking to the
Vonage
system please send the following email to the CEO and Chairman of the Board of
Vonage
:
marc.lefar@vonage.com
jeffrey.citron@vonage.com
Mr. Lefar and Mr. Citron,
I am sending this email supporting a campaign to request of adding to Vonage's service "call blocking for certain numbers" as well as modifying the "do not disturb" feature to enable consumers to set hours.
As the market for
Voip
becomes ever more competitive, Vonage's superior feature set will enable it to stand out as a better service provider.
Please add these two simple services to
Vonage
as soon as possible.
Thank you

Post subject: Selective Call Blocking
I am/Was a new
Vonage
customer...I Am being Ported back to my old Teleblend
Voip
service as we speak
And it's because
Vonage
does not offer selective call block!
I am an IT technician, have been in communications since 1982. And have come up with some ideas as to why the big orange will not add this very BASIC feature....
1.
Vonage
now has the largest share of
Voip
customers, numbering in the millions.
2. Telemarketing is Very BIG Business....Pulls down MegaBucks...
3. Telemarketing pays
Vonage
NOT
to add selective call blocking....
Now you
KNOW
why
this feature is not added, and especially not added for FREE!!
Vonage
would never be able to squeeze that kind of revenue out of it's customers.
That, my friends is the REAL No-Brainer answer

Post subject: google voice with vonage will block specific numbers
you can block specific numbers by using google voice in combination with
Vonage
call forwarding. Just set up your
Vonage
call forwarding to your google voice number, and have google voice forward the call right back to your
Vonage
number. It works seamlessly. Then google voice will simply act as a filter through which it will block any number desired .

How do you suppose that would work? Sounds to me like you're just creating an endless loop that can never resolve itself properly.

Vonage
gives u the ability to set the number of seconds before the call is forwarded and secondly the number of seconds after call is forwarded, but not answered by forwarded phone, before call goes to
Vonage
voice mail. So if call is set to be forwarded after more seconds than it is set to be answered by vm after forwarding, then it will not be reforwarded by
Vonage
. It does work quite well. You have the option of answering the call prior to the initial forwarding or after gv forwards the call back to your
Vonage
phone but before it goes to vm. It works so seamlessly that you can hardly detect any gap in the phone rings between forwards. If the call does finally go to vm, the total number of rings will equal the total of the two forwarding times u have set.

Interesting use of Google Voice. I haven't tried it, but could you use the Simulring feature to have
Vonage
simulring your GV number and if you blocked the number on GV would the call just stop ringing your
Vonage
line?

Thanks User1! This was a very helpful post. MUCH more helpful than anything
Vonage
has suggested in the thread.

Post subject: scheduled do not disturb with google voice
I set my
Vonage
phone to simulring my google voice number and I have my google voice number set up with a "do not disturb" times overnight. When I receive a
Vonage
call my phone only rings for maybe a half-ring before google picks it up and takes a message! It's so great to finally not get calls during the middle of the night. I haven't tried this with blocked numbers in google voice, but I bet that works too.
