Am I missing something here?

My Results

QOS 97%
RTT 46 ms
MaxPause 32 ms


The second section of the test to determine my upstream took about 5-10 minutes.
(no Windoze firewall (software) is running.)


My problems are:

Echo (about 25% of the time)

Dual Ringing (outgoing, ring overlaps with another ring, sounds out of phase) (99% of the time) What is that all about? Sometimes the ringing (second overlay) carries on after the other person has picked up the handset and said "Hello". Then quits.

Call quality (up stream (my voice) sometimes doesn't make the entire trip 50% of the time)


I have a RT31P2 which replaced my MTA/100. The only bad thing about the MTA/100 was (no dial tone, no caller id) but the Linksys introduced a new set of problems. The RT31P2 is right behind the cable modem.....then connected into my FVS-318. The FVS-318 is not the problem. My ISP (Charter) provides 256k/3m. I have one (1) phone connected to the adapter. Wire length is about 20 feet.

My QOS is at 512k

It is possible that we had a hicup. Did you try it again?

Who is your ISP and what speed do you purchase?

Sorry for the subject being too vague...I didn't realize that I put it there in the beginning.

Charter Communications (St. Louis, MO) local cable and high speed internet company. I believe it is their 'gold' package or whatever they call it these days. 256k/3m service.

I did a 'soft' boot on the two routers just a couple of minutes ago. Also on the cable modem.

Everything on the RT31P2 is set with the factory defaults with the exception of the firmware and whatever else 'vonage' has set.

I had run Ping Plotter with a Vonage rep a couple of months back. Aparently there was packet loss during the last two or three hops. I ran the program for some time and sent the results in to them. They managed to fix the sound quality on my downstream end. It sounded like most of the packets were not getting here. To express this sound in words...I guess it's like pulsing the sound on and off 20+ times a second. This is now resolved.

But what's with the dual tone ring? Imagine two identical tones just slightly out of sync (phase).

I ran the nice applet again here and now I get; "Errors logged to Java console" I don't know

You need to go to Java.com and get the updated Java.

Dan,

Thank you for replying again to my post. I did d/l the newest version available....however, that did not seem to correct for the problem (on this PC).

I will return to this tomorrow morning as it's just a little past 2 here.
