I want to subscribe to Vonage. Should I get the WRTP54G or PAP2-CU & WRT54G.

I like the idea of one device.

Also, I am considering the WCg200 & PAP2-CU

Thanks
Marc

WRTPG54g - make sure you get the 1.0.37 firmware to save all the hassles. I love the wireless and Phone Adapter build it.

I would be careful about the WRTP54G. There have been alot of issues even with the firmware.

The nice thing about the PAP2 is that as router/wireless technology increases and you want to upgrade, things will be simpler. That doesn't mean you can't put your router/adapter behind a new router, but it would be simpler to just to use the PAP2.

As someone who is still suffering with the WRTP54G, even with 1.00.37, by all means stay away from it and go with the proven PAP2-CU & WRT54G. You'll also have the advantage of plenty of 3rd party firmwares for the WRT54G.

If it were me, I would opt for separate devices for phone and router. Combining functions complicates things (unnecessarily) and if the device breaks, you lose the internet AND phone. With separate devices you only lose a single function if something breaks.

I have used Vonage since the beginning when they started. I have it in about 50 rental properties I own/manage. Never problems UNTIL I ordered a few of the wireless Linksys combo routers. I ordered 5 of them and get this....NONE of them work.

It's strange. The wireless router works but the Vonage service does not. No matter what you do, a woman's voice comes on the phone and says "You possibly plugged the telephone into the wrong port. If you know you plugged it into the correct port and still hearing this log in to your account and check status". My status is fine. I called Vonage and they have no clue so now I have to cancel all these services for the 5 units. Stay away from them.

Does Vonage offer a PAP2 option directly through them? If so , I don't see if evident on their site.

I currently have a WRT54G V.3, working well, and am considering trying Vonage. Going with the PAP2 seems like an obvious choice for me, but I'd rather get it directly through Vonage, with the "Instant" rebate, vs Circuit City, CompUSA, etc., with the mail-in rebates, which can be a major aggravation at times.

I'm still interested in any other recommendations to the original poster's questions. My other option with Vonage directly is the RTP300, which would be free up-front.

Thanks.

Go with the free RTP300, which is newer generation Voip technology than the PAP2, and then put it behind your WRT54G, turn off ALL its routing functions and essentially use it like a PAP2 - only as a telephone adapter. All the Vonage combo routers basically suck as routers, particularly in comparison to your WRT54G. As Vonage updates the firmware, router performance isn't even on their radar screen, and therefore router performance and capability suffers.
