PostPosted: Fri Jul 29, 2005 5:36 pm    Post subject: Direct TV Tivo & RT31P2 help! Reply with quote Back to top

Ok here is what I have:
RT31P2 Linksys Firmware: 1.28 Voice 2.0.13
Samsung SIR-S4080R Direct TV DVR (tivo)

I have tried every prefix code listed in these forums along with various numbers. I can get it to dial all day, and get the modem handshake, but for the life of me can not get it to actually connect.

I called customer support and attempted to load the firmware they e-mailed me and it would not load, just kept asking for a login which the customer service rep tried about 3 different ones with no luck.

I have sent a PM to the guy here that had the firmware to try, but have not heard back yet.

Any ideas? Anyone else have this working with this setup?

Thanks for any help,
Kyle

You definitely should try to get a new firmware. I believe voice version 3.1.3 is a lot better at handling data communications.

I've found that doing a hard-reset can sometimes force the latest firmware to be downloaded. (This will erase any custom settings you've changed):

- Unplug RT31P2
- hold down the reset button
- plug it in
- wait 20 seconds
- release reset button

Watch for the power light blinking... when it blinks, it sometimes means that a new firmware is being installed.

Is there a way to load it form the internal website? I have tried what they sent me but no luck. I will try to reset it but its a royal pain as it is not on the standard IP.

Have you checked out the other threads in this section? There's some tips you could try, such as:

-The *99 prefix to tell Vonage it will be a data call
-Some Tivo prefixes to force a lower modem speed
-Having the Tivo dial a Manhattan (212) access number
-Something with a DSL line filter
-Connecting via serial cable to a PC, and doing something with PPP.

He did say he had tried all of the prefixes.

You didn't say whether Vonage had adjusted the packet sizes on your line.

Also, since you have, I believe, a series 2 unit you could also use the USB interface to connect the box directly to your network.

Yes I have tried more prefixes than I can count or list here. Mutiple orders in the call waiting in the prefix. I think I have made it dial at least 1000 times with different settings, phone numbers, etc, etc...

This is a Direct TV tvio so aren't the usb ports shut off?

I am currently thinking about getting the serial cable, but how often would I need to let it call out? Would it have to be connected all the time? I rather not dedicate a PC to it if I don't have to.

Thanks a bunch for any ideas,

Also the guy I called at Vonage tried to push down the setting, but I do not think he could get them to take. Thats not to say they are not there now after I got the firmware to work.

6.2 enabled the USB ports, however after more research it appears they are not useful for anything, sorry.

As far as PPP. I think TiVo only nags you after 2 weeks and nags you once a day after 30 days. DirecTV only needs to call out every month or so and if it doesn't it just affects ordering PPV and subscribing to sports packages.

You can make the connection, force the TiVo call and then call DirecTV and ask them to force a DirecTV call and then leave it alone for a month or so.

Well I made my own serial cable and ran it under the floor to my server. So far its workign great and its now downloading what must be an update as it is a bit big.

Thanks all for any help, and anyone looking for a simple solution just use the serial cable method... It a ton less haslte.
