so ... i really like Vonage, however, callers hear a long delay before my voicemail message starts. i'm concerned that folks are hanging up before they hear my outgoing message ... anyone else experience this?

Yep, this is happening to people calling me as well. I think it started happening a few days ago as someone told me that it wasn't picking up at all. They probably just didn't wait long enough.

Furhermore, when I try to access my voicemail it is acting very strange. First of all when I dial *123 from my phone it takes about 10-15 seconds before prompting me for my password. After entering my password another long pause before giving me the voicemail menu prompts. So it appears that the whole voicemail process is having problems with delays.

Not only that, but sometimes it tells me there are no messages when I know that there are. My message waiting light blinks, I access my voicemail, and it says there are no messages. If no messages why is my message waiting light blinking. Then I go onto my account on the website and do in fact see a new message.

So, something screwy is happening with voicemail and I'm sure we can expect Vonage to have this cleared up in no time at all, about as long as it takes to reach technical support.

Same thing happened to me 2 days ago - I just now can access it through the phone.

Just wanting to link this to the "voice mail doesn't work" thread. Seems a lot of us are having it go on in the last few days. I've got a ticket started with support and they say they're aware...

It has been over half a month now and the delay before going to voicemail still exists. Spoke with customer support on 8/16/05 and they are aware with no ETA on when this will be fixed. As far as I am concerned I have no voicemail at this point because most people just hang up when they just hear silence after the ringing. I guess I will have to break out an answering machine if I want to get messages.....bummer!

wow, sorry to hear that. Mine was fixed like the next day, I think? I've had Vonage sinc 10/03 and that was the first problem I've had with voicemail and it was very short-lived. Hopefully yours will be resolved soon as well?
