Hello:

OK, I have been "lurking" in this forum since I got Vonage service in January, but have never posted. This topic prompts my reply, since I have what should be the same setup, if you are indeed using Verizon DSL with a Westell Versalink 327W.

This is an all-in-one DSL modem, router, firewall, and wireless access point. The FOUR Ethernet LAN ports on the back of this box are your private LAN, and you should be able to just plug in a PC or a Vonage router, and it should automatically obtain a private IP address like 192.168.1.2 or 192.168.1.46, depending on how the 327W is configured.

You should NOT need to do anything with the Linksys router's configuration, especially mess with PPoE, to make it work. The default configuration of the Linksys box will act as a DHCP client to obtain an address from the Westell box. If you have changed any settings in the Linksys, then that's likely to be your problem. To correct this, unplug the Ethernet cables from the Linksys box, power it off, then use a straightened paperclip or pencil point to gently push in the reset button on the back of the Linksys box while you plug in its power cord back in. Hold in the reset button for 10 seconds or so, then release. Wait a while, then power it off, plug a cable from the WAN port on the Linksys box to one of the four LAN (not WAN!) ports on the Westell 327W box, and power on the Linksys box. After waiting a while, the "E1" LED on the Westell box should be lit (or E2-4, depending on which jack you used), the phone line 1 and Internet LEDs on the Linksys box should be lit, indicating that it has obtained an IP address from the Westell box, and connected out thru the Internet to Vonage, to "register" itself as a SIP device on their service. If not, let us know, before fiddling with any more tests. If this fails, then you likely have a problem with a bad Linksys box, or some configuration problem with your Westell box.

That's a good point. I had assumed it was just a modem.

Thank you very much for your help. I just got off the phone with Vonage after an hour and we tried a lot of different things and came to the conclusion that I may have a faulty box because nothing we were doing was working. So they are overnighting me a new box which i should have either tomorrow or most likely the next day. So I may be back in a day or two if I need your help again. Thank you so much for your help and suggestions. Smile Talk to you soon.

Did the Internet connection ever work from a computer connected to the LAN port?

Hi I'm new to these forums and I'm hoping someone at last can help me. I have been trying to hook up Vonage for my mom since yesterday morning and I'm getting no where. I've called Vonage 3 times and they have no idea what to do. We got instructions even from the Vonage website and still nothing. We hooked everything up just like it said and still no dial tone and neither of the Phone 1 or 2 lights are on. The internet light on the Vonage router is kind of flickering but not blinking. I can't go the the site it recommends for the PPPoE because I get a page cannot be displayed. (http://192.168.15.1) We have one computer hooked up running Windows XP, the Linsky's router for Vonage, and Verizon DSL box Versa Link model 327W.

One other thing, it says to run an Ethernet cable from the router to the modem and then another Ethernet cable from the Router to the computer but when we do that we lose our internet connection.

So can someone please explain to me in plain english exactly how to hook the Vonage up to Verizon DSL and if I need to go that website above how do i get there without getting the Page Cannot Be Displayed error???????

We would REALLY REALLY appreciate any help you could give. TIA

I have a similar system like you and i helped my wife to install it
over the phone. If she did it ,anybody can.
first connect your phone cable to the Versalink 327W.
Then plug in the Ethernet cable ti the E1 or e2 or e3 in you Versalink 327W.
The other end plug in into the Vonage Router-Phone adaptor
that Vonage gave you.
Connect your phone line into phone connection #1 on the Vonage Router-adaptor.
You have there also 3 Ethernet ports- connect one of them to your
computer.
Dont forget to plug in the power supplies.
the 192.168.15.1 doesn't display, because it is for a different
Router-adaptor. It should work without doing it- it worked because
the Verison is versalink and Vonage is linksys so they have different IP addreses.
If they are the same then they clash.
(I have exactly the same setup)
You can later find the numbers that you need on the Vonage website (How to configure the linksys RTP31P2 router-adaptor
and a screen will come up.
good luck
Harry

Just to be sure, do you have the 327W configured so it establishes the PPPoE connection itself? This is indicated by the INTERNET light on the 327W being on. The reason I ask is that before the 327W, Verizon gave people DSL modems, not routers, so the PC itself had to be configured to bring up the PPPoE. When I first hooked up the 327W with the same PC configuration, it immediately worked, but with the INTERNET light off, so that any other device plugged into the 327W would not have access.

Just to let everyone know.....my mom is now up and running on Vonage!! Whoohoo! The only thing that was wrong was that we had a faulty box. It had nothing to do with my installation skills. Very Happy Thank you for all of your help and suggestions!
