Hi...

For a BYOD scenario (whether an Asterisk or TeleVantage PBX), what are the settings to connect to a Vonage account through SIP? I assume Vonage uses standard SIP so this should work, right?.

You can only do that with a softphone. For the normal account, the credentials are hidden in the box, and it uses one-way hashing, so sniffing packets won't help you.

OK, so we have the option of setting up the account for "softphone" usage which then passes the credentials? If we set up the Vonage account like this, is it doable?

Could you use the WIFI-Phone using a Softphone account before it is released through Vonage?

You would have to get a "standard" Vonage account then get the softphone on top of it.

A softphone is $10/month in addition to the normal account, and that includes 500 minutes.

With Vonage, you can't get a softphone by itself, and you can't get unlimited minutes on it.

OK, So it sounds doable with a softphone account for a single-number-single-line scenario.

What I'm trying to do is hook up our switch (TeleVantage7 Beta) directly to Vonage without deploying ANY analog hardware. Once you dump the digital to analog (in the gateway), you lose most of the inbound call information. The goal is to emulate T1/PRI functinality via Vonage VoIP... ie ten physical phone numbers on top of four Voip channels to a switch. The switch picks up the DID (number called) from the SIP string then routes the inbound call appropriately.

Feedback?

Can we get multiple numbers on top of a lesser amount of channels with Vonage???

Is the SIP string (when configured with Vonage for soft-phone use) then standard?

That stuff is definitely not available on the standard account, but you might want to check out that "Vonage Business Info" thing on the left. I've heard you can get a more customized service by working through a reseller.
