When I dial *123 to access my voicemail, the call quality is very choppy both incoming and outgoing. So far its the only number I've called and experienced this problem. Is this a problem for anyone else? |

Its one of the reasons I am seriously considering leaving Vonage. More specifically when calls are forwarded to voicemail the messages left are choppy and completely horrible. I've dealt with their service people a few times on the problem - and it goes away for a while but then comes back. I can handle calls when I am talking that burp but voicemails are almost essential to have clear. Even though we have caller id, messages from big places like hospitals appear as originating from a central number and not from where they were made. |

Your issue with Voicemail I've never experienced. All of my calls 9received/placed) including to voicemail have been clear. With the exception of one time I heard a echo a couple of nights ago... It was my fault because I was trying upload a couple of large files to my other computer upstairs and flooded my network for a second.
As for Caller-ID. It's not the fault of Vonage that only the Trunk number displays for large business's that call you. It's the limit of the system and holds true for anyone who places a call to you from behind a switch. If caller-id is displayed it will only show the trunk number from where the call was placed and will never show the true extension number. Think of it like a firewall and NAT... Your private IP is never displayed to the public.
Some switch administrators that I know won't even pass ANI to the network so as to cut down on toll fraud. Once a person knows the trunk number they are a step closer to breaking into the switch and being able to place toll calls at will.

I understand the caller id situation - I merely meant in that instance the voicemail is useless even with the caller id because I can't find out who called necessarily. Wasn't try to blame anything on Vonage for that...
As for the voicemail quality issue we'll see what they can do for me. Nobody as of it can explain to me if its a bandwidth issue for me (i.e. the call may be forwarded to voicemail through my ATA) or a bandwidth issue for them at the central office in my area (i.e. the call may be forwarded to voicemail over their own connection to their servers). So I don't know where the fault lies - all I know it clears up and their tech support staff cannot duplicate it. Very interesting... |
