WRT54GP2 Rebooting Clues.
I cannot believe that i have had this problem with this router for SO long and i cannot find a reliable answer to it. I spent lots of time working with tech support AND getting replacement(s). The interesting thing is to me is this...
I travel around with this box in my suitcase often. It seems to work PERFECTLY at my house in Spain where i have a fixed IP address and 1MB down / 256 Upstream. Does not seem to reboot often, does not drop calls, etc. That is to say i never notice the reboots, so it is either much less frequent or not happening at all.
However, when i use it in hotels or in NYC connected to a very high speed cable modem, using DHCP to get it's IP address, it reboots constantly when i am moving data across it. To me constantly means once every two or three hours.
- It seems that it happens when I am using the standard MS VPN client which i always need.
- Seems not be related to using the phone line.
- Seems to happen when i am using the wireless portion of the router, although i am always using it... so who knows about that.
- Seems to happen when traffic spikes slightly, like reloading a complex web page.
It is a complete reboot by the way. Looses wireless, drops phone call, drops all connectivity, lights go out and start as if i was power cycling it. It seems that the faster the WAN side of the router is, the more it reboots. I am sure lots of people are having this problem and i hope that it gets resolved soon. i am running firmware 1.28 and voice 3.13. Would love to hear from anyone with this problem. More, with anyone that has a solution! |
