This is more a test, I will keep my real phone numbers untill I am satisfied with the quality, how is the return and account cancellation policy?
Do I have to dial my area code on every call, even if it is local to me, is there any way at all around this?

First of all, your questions are all answered if you goto the
Vonage
web site under the Q&A..
As far as <snip>MOD: This forum dislikes advertisments<snip>
As far as cancelling goes. You have 14 days I believe to try it out. If you don't like it, you can send it back no questions asked! If you decide to cancel after that point,
Vonage
will charge you a full month service for disconnection.
If you sign up,
Vonage
provides you with your free ATA the device needed to convert your regular voice through a telephone and basically encode it digitally through the internet...
Quality is great! And, if you're like me who calls Canada ALL the time, you'll save a bundle!
Any more questions just ask, but there's a lot of information on Vonage's web site I would go there and do some reading!
Good luck

While reading vonage's site, I found answers to most all of my questions, however, I posted here because I want accurate user feedback, not the sugar coated corporate selling tools that most companies use.
thanks

The
Vonage
service is excellent.
Just add a Virtual Number and watch it pay for itself in a month. We have 2 VNs and they are awesome.
As a FYI, I don't work for
Vonage
or am I compensated for my opinions. I'm just a customer that is very happy with the service, ease of use and especially the unbeatable price!

No BS, I am kinda a corp guy, but not really.
The service is great. Keep your current phone for now. You will ditch it next month, for sure. As long as your ISP is solid, you will not need your POTS line.

I have a 1.54Mb DS1 here, I am more concerned with stuff like numeric only caller id and having to dial a area code all the time.

The dialing thing; you get over it real quick. Plus, much of the USA has gone to 10 and 11 digit dialing already, so for most people it is the same as they currently use.
I will check on Caller ID, I believe I heard that Alpha will be supported later this year.

having the names with caller id could make
Vonage
much more of a company for users that arent so sure wether to switch over or not. Please PM me if they start to add it cuz then i would definently join up in like 2 seconds.

Post subject: Caller ID
As far as the Caller ID with name issue. Most phones today, if you've stored you're family, business associates iinformation in the phones directory, will come up with the name while on
Vonage
line. Basically the phone sees the incoming number and links it to your directory record that has the name stored in it.
For example if you have Uncle Tom's name and number programmed in the phone, everytime his number comes up (555-555-5555) even though
Vonage
doesn't send name info they send numeric info which links to your phone book record. Uncle Tom's name and number will pop up on your phone.
I realize this won't work unless you have people programmed in you phone book. But hey, its something.

Actually I have not found this to be the case. I have tried Siemens, Vtech, and and AT&T corless phone systems and they all store phone books but do not show the names like cell phones generally do.
I feel sure
Vonage
can find a way to bring the caller ID token in. It doesn't make that much difference to me but it would be preferable to know who is calling when you are unfamilar with the number.
