I am up and running with no problems. things working fine. I want to add a headset yo my systen but an a little confussed with some of the various posts. 1. Can I use a Voip / USB headset instead of my regular phone? I use click-2-call & dial out of Outlook or just enter the number. 2. If ? #1 is no, then I guess I need a phone with headphone jack? Ideas and feedback gladly accepted. Doug |

Sennheiser HMD-25's are my preferred headset, but they're out of most people's budgets and require quite a bit of equipment to interface to a POTS line. Beyerdynamic also makes some great headsets, but again the same probs as the Sennheisers (expensive and require even more expensive equipment to connect to a phone line)
On more practical terms, the Plantronics stuff is good. I used one of their voice tube headsets for a few years with no major complaints. Sound quality's acceptable. The voice tubes appear to be fragile, but I never broke one. I don't think I'd be willing to go any cheaper than Plantronics. I've also seen telecom headsets from Hello Direct (www.hellodirect.com) in a few offices. I think they're cheaper than the Plantronics, but didn't seem like toys either. |

Price the hardware then consider signing up for the softphone. I believe you will see that the softphone is more cost effective for your needs. Incoming calls are free, so you don't need to worry about minutes of use on the softphone. Calling out, just use your regular handset. Forward your primary number to the softphone, if you wish. (or simulring)
PC handsets/headsets are readily available.

Depending on the Plantronics headset, year you have to be careful. The tubes, especially around children, could have a tendency to break. Luckily mine has a mic on it...
What type of price range were you considering? That should be the first place to start, as it may be cheaper to just get a new phone.
Heck I hardly use mine anymore so I may be willing to part ways with it...I keep going back to my good old handset. |
