Hello,
My cousin is here in Italy attending at the University. He came with his Linksys RT31P2 Router and everything works fine. He is using Vonage at my house, I have a 3Com wireless router that includes 4 ethernet ports where Linksys RT31P2 Router is attached
Because the 3Com wireless router is also an ADSL modem there is no way we can control QoS. in other words if I connect my notebook in a wireless way, his Vonage connection almost collapse because of poor bandwith.
There is a trick to resolve this problem or I need to by some new hardware (e.g. access point, modem....) ?
This is the way it works
phone line with ADSL signal ==> ADSL modem with router and wireless ==> Linksys RT31P2 Router ==> Phone
Thanks in advance |

I think it may be possible, if you're willing to try something a bit weird:
Let's assume that the 3com has an IP address of 192.168.1.1. Log into the 3com and disable the DHCP server for the LAN. Make these connections:
RT31P2 WAN -> RT31P2 LAN
RT31P2 LAN -> 3com LAN
Here's some settings for the RT31P2 under "Internet Connection Type":
* Connection type: Static IP
* IP Address: 192.168.1.2
* Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
* Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1
* DNS 1: 192.168.1.1
Everything else should be at the defaults on the RT31P2
(local IP 192.168.15.1, DHCP enabled, QoS enabled, etc.)
Also, on the 3com, put in a DMZ address of 192.168.1.2
So, here's what's supposed to happen... all the computers will use the RT31P2's DHCP server to get a 192.168.15.* IP address. The RT31P2 will use the 3com for its internet connection, and it should be able to do QoS for all clients, wireless or wired.
I have no idea if this actually works, so be sure to post some info on how it goes. |

I just found this old post where I suggested something very similar, but I never heard anything back from him:
