Anyone out there using a Wireless ISP? I live in rural Ottawa and only have access to wireless broadband ISP's (Storm or Ripnet).
I would like to know how well Vonage voip is working for you over these or similar systems.
Thanks

What's your average ping times? If they're high (save >150 - 200ms) vonage's sound quality will suffer.
However, if you're able to maintain low ping times... then I'm sure vonage will work OK as long as you have adequate bandwidth.
You can try the VoIP Tester on this site... It'll give you a rough idea of how well vonage will work with your connection. |

Well, I run the VOIP test and the results are good,
Download: 454
Up: 426
QOS:53%
RTT:112 ms
max pause: 578 ms
But they seem to vary widely (sometimes I'm good for 2 high quality voip calls, other times up to 5), which makes me wonder if this is going to work reliably. Weather conditions may also impact performance.
It would be interesting to know how it works over a period of time, in terms of voice quality and dropped calls or outages . |

There's a much more relevant test at www.testyourvoip.com . That one actually places a simulated VoIP call and reports how well it went. |

The average MOS score I get is 4.0. The latency goes beyond 300 ms at times, so this worries me.
All indications are VOIP will work, but the acid test is still long term use. I will try it for 14 days (the money back guarantee duration) and see how it goes.
Thanks for your input. |

I am attempting to use a wireless ISP with Vonage in the Albany NY area.I am having limited Success with choppy voice quality for incoming calls.Average up/down load speeds are good, so web based test sites give good results. More detailed analysis reveals bursts of high latency - explaining the voice quality issue. For now I am trying to live with it. The price is right, the features are great. and I am hopeful that the software / technology will improve. I am trying to get my ISP (logical.net) to work on my signal. I am interested in hearing from others to share any helpful tips. |

Thanks for your feedback.
Yes, my latency does seem to be high at times but otherwise good test results. I'll be getting my Vonage box in the next day or so, and we'll see if that translates to the voice quality you're getting.
Please let me know if your ISP is able to improve the situation any.

Well I got the first adapter (RT31P2) and it did not work. It would not register my phone# and the phone LED remained off. After some hours of trouble-shooting with Vonage, it was decided that the adapter was faulty.Meanwhile, the adapter magically connected after some hours and I tried making some calls. It worked very well, even on a 45 minute long distance call. Anyway, the adapter disconnected again and never came up again. The new adapter does exactly the same thing. It connects via pppoe for a few seconds, and then disconnects. It repeats this over and over. The result is that the phone number does not register and my internet access is also in 10 second spurts, making loading a web page rather difficult (usually only get a partial web page downloaded).
My D link router (what I used before I got the vonage box)has no problem at all connecting via pppoe.
So, neither my ISP or vonage can solve the problem, so I will be getting my money back and trying out Primus. No choice really.
