Granted, I've only had to contact them a few times. I signed up by calling Vonage, I called about some problem back in the past, and a few days ago I called them yet again.

My most recent experience came from a voicemail related problem. I had a few voicemails, listened to them, then attempted to delete them using the web interface. I received an error, but the voicemails were deleted. Unfortunately, I was still receiving a stutter tone on my phone and the voicemail indicator light was still lit. I checked the web interface again, and my voicemail box was empty. I called voicemail to see if they were there, but again, empty. The stutter and indicator light persisted for a day or so.

It was a slight annoyance, so I called up Vonage (the VONAGE-HELP number). None of the options quite fit what I needed, so I hit 0 on the main menu. This actually got me through to somebody (I think I had to hit it a couple times). I IMMEDIATELY GOT A PERSON ON THE LINE. I believe the person was in New Jersey (not offshore). I explained my problem, but I could tell she was not a techie. She told me she'd "open a ticket" and entered my information into her system. When she was done, she asked if there was anything else she could do.

Based on others experiences I have read about on this forum, I decided to be a bit more aggressive and asked her to transfer me to technical support. This way, I had a ticket and could possibly get somebody in tech support to help me. She transferred me to tech support and, once again, THE CALL WAS IMMEDIATELY ANSWERED. Once again I had to explain the situation, and he immediately suggested I turn off voicemail and turn it on again. This was such an obvious answer, I felt pretty stupid. I ended the call with him, promising to call back if it didn't work.

Needless to say, his solution worked immediately.

My experience with Vonage CS has, thus far, not lived "down to" the expectations that other posts on this forum have painted for me. I can only say these people are getting really, really unlucky when they call Vonage; I don't believe I am in the minority here.

My calls have all been answered in a prompt manner. While the first person who answered on my recent call didn't seem too bright (it took her forever to type up my ticket and she used some really weird language), the tech support guy I was transferred to obviously knew his stuff.

You asked, why do so many people complain? That is human nature. Why would someone who is satisfied with his wife, the government, a restuarant, or Vonage service post a message, or make a public statement? Even in world politics, it is the malcontent who uses terrorism. Moderates and those who seek acceptance speak more quietly.

Personally, I am quiet happy with Vonage. I do feel they should have annonymous call rejection, and a few other features, but, generally, service has been good, and customer support have been responsive. I even made two calls to India and one to Russia (to women, of course) and the calls were inexpensive, and the sound was very clear.
