Five months, from Feb 20th til yesterday, I have waited for my number to be ported. Yeterday, Verizon disconnected and Vonage wasn't there to pick up the number. Now I have no phone number for incoming calls. No one can get in touch with me. If I didn't have this much time invested already, I would tell Vonage to buzz off for good.

My phone was disconnected by Qwest yesterday. I had been doing the number transfer thing since April. According to the customer care gentleman responding to my email, the transfer date (FOC date) was two weeks ago. And like you, Vonage was not there to pick it up. I assume my number is lost in the abyss of disconnected numbers.
Over the last 24 hours I have emailed customer care, the CEO of Vonage, numbertransfer@vonage.com and several other email addresses I found on this forum. Since my number is probably lost, I have asked them for at least a number with a local exchange. My temporary/virtual number is for a town almost 200 miles away!
I am giving Vonage 48 hours to get me local service (ie, a number with a local exchange) or I am going elsewhere. I like the idea of supporting alternative/fledging technologies/companies, but I have to have an affordable local phone service. And I have discovered several companies that have high constumer ratings. |

Unfortunately, your story is an all too common one. Seems like more people have your experience than not. I know I did, but I was only out for 24 hours.

Wednesday afternoon my number was finally ported. The phone calls and emails paid off. My number port was going nowhere until I became activitistic with emails all the way from the CEO to customer care. I should have done all the emails earlier on. However, I still suspect I would of gone a few days without local service due to problems with my local carrier. |
