PostPosted: Fri Jul 22, 2005 9:43 pm    Post subject: Cisco Call Manager Express, UNITY and VONAGE integration Reply with quote Back to top

I have set up a Cisco Call Manager Express and UNITY 4.0.4 Integration with Cisco IP phones. Right now I have a FXO port in the router that brings my Voip to analog phone connections. So when I make a Voip call, it is internal until it hits the router and then jumps off to a POTS line. I was wondering how I can take advantage of Vonage and use its service for the phone lines. I wanted to ask the forum if anyone has done this or has any good ideas for it?
1) Do you know if Vonage will support connecting to a Cisco Voip solution?
2) Do you know of any special equipment? I don't think there should be much.
3) Anyone know of any documentation to support this?
4) Ideas?

thx in advance.

This is all very interesting. I look forward to the replies from the Cisco members and others.

I would love to see this setup.

I'd just be happy to use a Cisco 7960 IP phone... have them at work & find them to be one of the better (and least expensive) business phones I've used in awhile. I still prefer the feel of the Northern Telecom stuff best, but they're a pain for advanced features.

I'll bite on this one.

Not familiar with the Cisco phone system as we run Nortel at the office.

In layman's terms what are you wanting to do? Have your system connect directly to Vonage's network via the Internet to make calls without the need for the Vonage router or just use the RJ11 connections on the Vonage router to connect to your system for POTS access instead of using the local telco?

This CAN definetely be done. You should get with a Vonage rep to see if you can get hooked in directly to their network. I know of several companies that will do this, so I would assume Vonage will to....

Basically, they will be on one of the WAN ports on your router, and you will configure the call manager to use that connection in the route list for outgoing calls.

I must say Nortel (Norstar) is the best. I used to have Norstar in my home. I gave it up awhile back. But I plan on getting Norstar 8x24 again.

I love the feel of the Nortel phones, but their menus are quirky and the sound quality is a smidge below what the newer phone systems can do. I still have a Nortel 616 in storage. No plans of getting rid of it, and eventually I'll resurrect it and use it again, but I'd like to get a bunch of the Cisco IP phones and use those. Then again, the Cisco phones have been out for a couple of years and my 616 is at least 10 years old, if not more, so considering, it's pretty darn good.

This is very due able. I was able to take my existing Voip solution at the house to include; Cisco router w/FXO, Cisco inline pwr switch, Call Manager 3.3(4), Cisco PAP2, (3) 7960’s, (4) 7940’s, and my personal favorite (1) 7970, and successfully make calls from my Voip phones thru the Call Manager and out my Vonage PAP2 using h.323. I am still tweaking the config but it works like a champ. More to follow…

Man, I tried to count up the net worth of your home network, and after a certain point I just balked at the numbers! Very Happy
