I just got Vonage today and I am having difficulty setting it up. My current network consists of:
cable modem > befsr41 > RT31P2
I have it setup so the befsr41 is the DHCP server and it has an IP address of 192.168.1.1. The RT31P2 has the DHCP server turned off and is set to IP address of 192.168.1.2. When I plug a computer into both routers it works fine, but when I have my telephone plugged into the RT31P2 it will not work. I temporarily connected the RT31P2 directly to the cable modem and I was able to get dial tone, dial out, receive calls etc, but when the RT31P2 is behind the befsr41 the phone will not work.
Please tell me what I can do to fix this. My goal here is to keep the befsr41 as the first device (if possible) and just have the RT31P2 as the second router device.
Thanks. |

If you make the RT31P2 your first [or only] router, then you can use voice QoS, which will prevent computer uploads from interfering with the voice uploads while you're on the phone.
That said, the RT31P2 is probably not working as is because the LAN and WAN sides are conflicting on the same 192.168.1.* subnet. Change the RT31P2's IP to 192.168.2.1 or something.
But anyway, why do you want to put the RT31P2 behind the BEFSR41? |

If you want to do it your way make sure the RT31P2 is connect with its WAN port and enable static routing on the befsr41, with a static route to 192.168.1.2. Also make sure the Static IP on the RT31P2 has the gateway along with the IP. |

This is how i just setup mine. Seems to work well.
(That WAN port on the BEFSR is going nowhere BTW)
Advantages: - RT31P2 acts as the DHCP server - RT31P2 is upstream to provide QOS for phone. - Access to Admin screens on both RT31P2 and BEFSR41 |

we have problems behind any bef* series router, try factory resetting your BEF, leave dhcp on on the RT31p2, and connect it from bef ethernet to rt31p2 internet and it should work "ok" if you start to have problems again yoiu have to fact reset your bef again or put the rt first |
