Post subject: RCA DCM305 and Linksys RT31P2 questions problems Please Help
Hi I have Comcast HSI in Seattle with an RCA DCM305 cable modem and Linksys RT31P2 adapter. My problems are as follows
1. Diconnects
2. Choppy outgoing audio or none at all
3. When I place a call the ringing I hear while waiting for someone to pick up fades in and out
4. fast busy signal
5. People speaking to me hear their voice echoed
6. My voice out sounds metallic to them like max headroom
Ok here are my questions
1. I was told by a
Vonage
tech that my cable modem DOCSIS is 1.0/1.1 and that only DOCSIS 1.2 and up supports the
Vonage
Voip
is that true?
and if so is there away to upgrade it? or do i need a new modem?
2. Can someone tell me what my PORT based Qos and Voice Qos settings should be?
3.I looked around the forum but didnt find exactly what i needed so I apologize if this is a dumb post but if you could point me in the right direction i'd appreciate it
thanks very much for any help

I have the SB4100 and it's only 1.0/1.1 compliant. Haven't had a single problem with it. I think that the
Vonage
rep is speaking a bit inaccurately. I also contacted comcast and they said that the SB4100 is perfectly compatible with their current system.
My QOS setting is set at 512. It was made that way with the latest firmware upgrade. There is at least one post where someone suggested a formula for figuring out QOS but it didn't work for my configuration.
Also I did have some issues of choppy audio and I changed the bandwidth setting to 50 kbps and haven't had any issues. Consider doing that on the
Vonage
website features link.

Thanks for the reply mundy5, i've tried changing the bandwidth saver 50 and 30 and still have the same problems...sometimes when i call
Vonage
the tech cant even hear me... after spending 25 minutes on hold its really frustrating i saw on another post in this forum that it might have soomething to do with the Voltage of the RJ-11 jack on the RT31P2.
Do you know how I can change it or test the voltage?
Or how I can check the firmware version or upgrade it on the RT31P2?
I've been having this problem for ages and am at my wits end.. so I appreciate the help.
If anyone has a similar setup to mine (RCA DCM305 and Lynksis RT31P2 adapter and doesnt have any problems I'd be interested in trying to compare settings to see if I can get it to work
Thanks again
