I signed up with Vonage because I wanted to be able to bring my number to my new house when I moved at the end of June. I am a current Verizon customer in Marion IL and moving to Carbondale IL I would end up having to change my number which I use for my small business I run on the side. My lease ends on July 31st where my number is currently physically installed. I checked toward the end of June and some rep said the transfer was supposed to take place on the 24th or so and on the 26th nothing had happened so I called in. They had no record of any transfer or contact with the carrier. After numerous calls to Verizon (which said they had no requests and to contact Vonage) and calling Vonage countless times I am still at square one. I currently have a verizon cell phone which I am planning on porting over to IL and requesting a number port from landline to cell if I get no word by monday. I think 2 months is enough to get at least some type of ETA or confirmation that the order was even placed properly. I sure wish I had done a search on the forums to see all the headaches that are happening. Anyway I had 2 phonecalls today to Vonage and was given _another_ ticket number this afternoon saying someone would "get in touch" with me Tuesday about the escalation. Unfortunately tuesday will be too late, my number transfer from AZ to IL (yes I have had an AZ number for 2 years living in IL) will take 48hrs or so, and once that is done the number port from Verizon to Verizon wireless should take from 1-6hrs. I really would love to keep Vonage service but unless I have my number it isn't much use to me except to call out for long Distance. Vonage doesnt have the 618 area code, so anyone calling me would have to pay long distance to call me (I'm not using the unlimited plan, I don't use the phone that much).
Overall I have probably spent a good 3 or more hours on hold or talking to a rep, all counting against my minutes, good thing they started crediting me for service this month or I'd be asking for those calls to be taken off.
I've seen the sticky recommending cancelling/resubmitting, but with just 10 days left on my lease I can't afford to gamble. Hopefully somethign will come up by monday, I hope everyone else has better luck than me. |

Dear Nathan,
I am contacting you in regards to your number transfer. We did receive your request however we currently do not offer number portability in your local area. We are continually expanding our market availability and plan to offer this option for all of our customers.
We truly apologize for this inconvenience. If you wish to cancel the port, your assigned temporary virtual number can then become your permanent number.
Also, because your transfer has passed the initial 20 business days, please either reply to this e-mail or contact our billing department if you wish to request credit for the delay.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Sincerely,
LNP Department 1-866-496-6359 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Gee thanks, It would have been nice of the representative to tell me LNP's weren't available in my area. On the contrary, I was told they WERE. Also the fact that it took 2 months, countless phonecalls and emails to get them to tell me this is unacceptable. Buyer be warned. |

Did you try the electronic eLOA service? Many reports of that working far better than the old system Vonage was using. |

The number check on the website now lists my number as "non portable". Plus even though if it said it was portable, I only have 7 days left on my lease then I have to pull my number. There is no way it would go through, so basically I was given he runaround for 2 months, I could have had my # on my cell 2 months ago and saved about 100 in landline fees and 100+ in Vonage fees. |

Your story is a cautionary tale for me. I'm going to give Vonage their 20 business days, perhaps even a few weeks after that, but then I'm pulling the plug.
I'm simply not saving any money if I'm paying for two telephone services. |

I wouldn't have been so mad had there been any real communication in 2 months. It should not take them 2 months to finally figure out my number was not portable. That should have been disclosed on signup and I would have chosen not to sign up at all. Now I am waitng for my 5-10 business days for my # to transfer to my cell (gambling and hoping my old apartment doesn't get leased out right away and someone hooks up a phone and trys to call china). Overall though I have to say that the "technology" works just fine. I've talked to my grandma over the phone for 30mins or more with no problems, its the "service" that ****, and if you are getting a new number that isn't an issue, just the transfers appear to have no communication. |
