Since our PAP2 is a router and a switch away from the cable modem, some rewiring may be in order.

I don't think changing the order of devices is going to have any effect on DTMF stuff. Your best bet is to call customer service and ask if they're able to turn off DTMF regeneration. I don't really know if that setting is available to them.

If you can get that done, the be sure to make some test calls afterward to some automated menu systems, to make sure that the tones can still get through with regeneration disabled.

The phone you're using could be contributing to the problem... I'm not sure what they're using for DTMF detection, but some (if not most) phones have rather cheap microphones that unequally emphasize certain frequencies. Changing phones might very well eliminate the problem.

The DTMF tones aren't generated at your phone adapter. They get generated somewhere within the cloud of Vonage's network.

This can be proven if you shut off your phone adapter and have incoming calls transferred to another non-Vonage phone. The DTMF problem still exists (at least, it does for me).

This makes me believe the problem may be a bit more difficult to fix. It may be easier to coach your mother to speak with a lower voice Wink

I have the same problem. I have a tech helping me out with it, he's actually setting up appointments with me to check up on the issue. So far, he's "made a few changes" but won't tell me what except he lowered the voice quality to "Higher". Since we don't use the phone that much, it may take a while (if ever) before this one gets solved.

Oh, by the way, the tech only told me that there "may" be something he could do to fix it. Sounds like there is no guarantee they'll ever be able to resolve this once and for all.

We've had Vonage for almost a year now and other than an incredibly long wait to port our number, we've been happy.

I have been annoyed with intermittent touch tone sounds during many calls, on one side of the call or the other. It wasn't so bad until my Mom decided to say "beep" every time she heard one. Rolling Eyes I've seen bits and pieces here about beeps, but no real info and certainly no resolution. Any update?

Geekette - Did you call Vonage tech support on this? If you didn't you may want to do so. I think the more people who report this, the better chance we have of getting this resolved.

Thanks...

Did anyone ever get the problem solved? I revived another old thread on the same topic. I have the RTP31P2. Wife on Vonage + me at work on POTS line = random touch tones.

Thanks.

No, unfortunately there is no resolution. It's just something you're going to have to deal with. I do have to say though that since CS swapped out my RT32P2 for an RTP300, the number DTMF tones have reduced in frequency.

Open a case with CS. Watch how they will act like they have no idea what you're talking about then try to convince them to replace your 31P2 with an RPT300.

Try getting CS to change your DTMF setting to in-band - the RTP300/WRTP54G devices dont have this. Might be worth a shot.

DTMF Tx Method: Method to transmit DTMF signals to the far end.
If you do not enter a value then Auto will be used.

auto is the default, other settings are Inband, AVT, and INFO.

This is the only DTMF setting we can change, the others are stupidly locked down for PAP2/Rt31p2 devices.

What exactly will this do? This is a setting only CS can change correct? RTP 300 can be done by the user?

Thanks.
