I started off with the RT31P2 provided by Vonage. This worked well and I had no problems. I should have left well enough alone.
Then I saw the WRTP54G in the store. "Wow" I thought - "I can simplify my network setup by using this in place of the separate Vonage/WiFi boxes I have now!"
Boy was I wrong.
It took several calls to tech support before they got me switched to use the MAC of the new device, and once 1.00.37 firmware came out, it worked. Sort of.
I was plagued with "dead air" calls where the other person couldn't hear me. I finally had my fill of this after a month or so, and called last night to get them to reinstate the original box.
The tech had to take a ticket to make this happen, and told me the swap would be in effect within 24hrs. I got the email today saying it was good to go.
It's not.
Now neither of the Vonage boxes will place calls, and contacting tech support on a borrowed phone got "everything is 100% ok on our end."
Argh! I'm hosed here, with no phone whatsoever!
The moral of the story? DONT change hardware. They do not make that easy.
Hopefully I can borrow another phone and try them again tomorrow...if any of you guys happen to be Vonage techs though, please contact me via email, maybe we can work it out over IM. (My internet works fine, only the phone is hosed.) |
