I activated my account on July 7th and had no problems until today. So I had one week of good service. When I tried to use my phone today I could not get a dial tone. I spent over 3 hours with Vonage technicians to no avail. I even learned the username and password to reset the Vonage default factory settings but still not dial tone. I am totally disappointed. I had high hopes for this technology even to the point where I was thinking about disconnecting my "real" phone. I even own stocks with companies that support this technology. Imagine not having a dial tone for 1 day on a verizon line? If anyone would like to lift my spirits here's my situation. The blue light on the phone 1 port is steady. When I called my phone voicemail picked up and I was able to playback message online. When I called the phone rang on my cellphone but not at home. I figured out that if the phone port lights blinks this means you have a voicemail message. This is not explained in the user manual. Guess the time is not right for this technology si I'll need to hang on to my "real" phone! |

are you sure the phone light blinking means new message? this is not the case in any of the other devices, and has always meant that either the line is in use, or if both are blinking at the same time, that it is trying to connect to the Vonage server but can't. I highly doubt this has changed, especially since the manual states it does exactly what I said. need to know: network setup, isp, exactly what the phone light(s) are doing, why does it ring your cell phone (do you have simulring set up or is it your network availability number?) and of course make sure it's not set up to instantly forward to your cell phone (doesn't sound like it is, but just trying to cover all the bases) |

I also read what you read in the manual about the blinking light on the phone port. But all I can tell you is the minute I got through viewing and listening to my voicemail on line the light went steady blue. I tried this 2 times. Maybe it's one of those unannounced enhancements. All the lights are now steady blue except an ocassional flash when router and modem are communicating. I'm still without dial tone and really don't know where to turn except to wait for my replacement router to arrive on Monday. I guess we get what we pay for! Free but crappy router with phone jacks!! Does anyone know of a good router with phone jacks other than Linksys/Vodaphone? I used the Linksys BEFW11S4 for several years without any problems. But I was wooed by the deal and opted to upgrade for free. What good is free if the router does not work as advertised. In my entire long life and I am now a senior citizen, I have not been this long without a dial tone for a phone. I hate to lament but I'm really disappointed!! |

Have Vonage Tech support switch your phone ports and see if that makes any difference. |

Already changed ports yesterday but still no dial tone. I may reset to factory settings one more time as a last gasp. |

I received my new router today and finally have my dial tone back. But I'm not so sure it was the router. At first the new router would not give me a dial tone. I worked with Vonage technician and she did all she possible could. We then started to switch phones with no luck. Then I got a bright idea that the only variable I hadn't explored was the phone cord connecting my phone to the router. I tried a new one and lo and behold I got a dial tone. Now I need some of you experts out there to help me out. I inspected the phone cords and discovered that the cord with 2 wires worked while the one with 4 wires did not work. What is difference and why would one work and not the another. Both cords worked ok as a regular phone when plugged into my wall jack. Any thoughts????? |
