There are a few threads around here that mention places to download the new firmware. I think one was from linksysinfo.org, and one was directly from Vonage using the tftp program. Haven't tried them myself though.

At the bottom of the first post, it says "This is crap!" was too vague of a title. The title is actually supposed to tell people what the thread is about.

You can download and install the new firmware yourself.

I didn't have any problems doing this, but others on this forum have, so proceed at your own risk.

You could also call Vonage and ask them to push the upgrade.

I have asked this before, but I think it needs to be repeated: Why can't Vonage & Linksys produce some documentation on this router so they could avoid all these complaints?

Ralph,

We are "almost" in the same boat but I boat out of Newburyport Smile

I'll be returing this for a new one. Can't believe I purchased 2 routers from the same store and one has the latest firmware and the other (4) did not!!!

And I know it can only be the router ( I suspect firmware) because my other router works fine at the office and at home!

I went to the Linksys site and there are no firmware upgrades available so I guess I'll just have to keep on returning these puppies until I get one that works with the newer firmware on it.


My WRTG54P2 died this past week from a lightning strike, now have a wrtp54g, it had a really old version of the firmware but it did update to .37 after a few hours. What Vonage instructed me to do to speed up things was to disable the wireless until the upgrade was complete....before I did this I thought the router was defective because it was EXTREMELY slow, once the wireless was disabled even during the upgrade the router was acting perfect....after the upgrade everything is great with the wireless back on.....no issues here, so far so good

I'm new here but found this thread searching for this exact same problem. My WRTP54G worked just fine until they said I should upgrade. Now DNS issues have shown up. The router assigns itself as the DNS server to all DHCP clients. However it seems the router is not actually listening to DNS requests. They just time out. You have to manually configure each client with the correct DNS settings. This is just ridiculous. The firmware succesfully upgraded to 1.00.37. I tried resetting the router several times and the problem persists. It is not an OS issue because it is happening with 3 different PCs, using both Windows and Linux.

Anyone have any thoughts on what to try? The DHCP server functionality is useless if it won't assign the DNS servers correctly.

I have 1.00.37 and using the Router as the DNS server does work for me (just don't get me started on the lack of QoS). For those who it's not working for, is the Status tab correctly listing DNS servers obtained by the router from the cable modem? Or are you specifying your WAN IP address and DNS servers manually?
