I am having the VT1005 ATA (with static IP) bihind my Linksys BEFSR41. I have not enabled the ports forwarding.
I enabled the log for the Linksys for 4-5 hours while I was using my vonage line (incoming and outgoing calls). In the log I didn't see any incoming requests for ports 5060-5063 or 69. And the line is working fine.
The question is, do you really need port forwarding in the linksys? What am I missing if I don't do it?
Can some people that have port forwarding, try to disable it and give us the results?
Don't you find it strange that for some people the service is working without port forwarding and for some don't with the exact same config?

I just received my VT1005 ATA yesterday, connected it up to port 3 on my Linksys BEFSR41 and it works fine with no port forwarding. Calls sound as good as Sprint calls. I updated the firmware of the router in July of 03. I am also wondering if I need to program the port forwarding... Is it possible that is only requires it sometimes but not always? If it "ain't broke" I don't intend to "fix" it unless there is some advantage. |

If the router supports UPnP, it will plug right in and you do not need to do any port forwarding. The bottome line...if you plug it in your router and it works (incoming and outgoing), don't screw around with it. |
