I agree with this statement. I have the BEFSR41 router (about 3 or so years old) and I upgraded the firmware. Immediately I had problems. It would break the uploading data stream. So I would still get data download, but nothing would upload.

So I had to downgrade the router and now am considering replacing it with a NetGear router that is on Vonage's approved list.

The router may be my source of trouble with outbound transmission problems. I'll try to post more feedback soon.

Does anyone have some updates here? I also have the linksys BEFSR41 router and have constant problems with calls being dropped and lose of Internet connection for about 3 minutes when it happens then all is restored to both Phone and PC's.

Is the NetGear router really the answer to this? Customer service is not really helpful in this area or at least they have not been for me.

I have been on the phone with Comcast several times and am pretty convinced that they are not the problem?

any help would be great.

Set up is Cable Modem > Linksys BEFSR41 router > the MTA (moto) in addition to 2 PC's. Port forwarding is enabled to the proper IP address that the MTA has.

The hardest thing is that is not a constent but does happen several times a day.

that is what Vonage said.

is it possible that the router is causing the problem. I never had any problems with the connection prior to Vonage.

I believe it is a change in firmware as I have not had that problem before and now I do. Also, I install these for a living and the new BEFSR41 v.3 comes with a entirely different firmware and that seems to have more problems...

I have noted now that I can no longer pcAnywhere into one of my systems since upgrading the firmware...

My config is:

Cable modem -> BEFSR41 -> PCS and VT100 and also to another switch as I have a bunch of network savvy stuff as well as several systems.

FYI - I heard from a customer friend of mine that Vonage says that a firmware upgrade is available for the VT100. Has anyone with this problem tried it?

My exact problem of late is that on an outgoing call I'll suddenly lose the call and then if I go to one of the computers it won't be able to get to the Internet. looking at the equipment I'll see the green light on the VT blinking and the Internet lights on the back blinking like mad. The only way to get everything back is to reset the router. The what seems like flooding from the VT seems to be causing me to reset the router to resolve the issue.

OK, here's a reiteration of my problem: I'm partially losing outbound transmissions. I can hear the person on the other end of the line fine, but they have trouble hearing me.

I have the following setup: Road Runner Toshiba PCX1100 cable modem>>Linksys BEFSR41 Router>>Cisco ATA186.

I checked with the Vonage tech staff. They suggested that I hook up the ATA186 directly to the cable modem and cut out the suspect router.

So I did exactly that and still had problems. That means to me that there's a problem with the Road Runner service, not the router. At this point it's may be incompatible with Vonage Voip.

Knowing how many Road Runner subscribers are out there, I'm surprised I don't see this problem mentioned more often.

I am going to link this to the router...I have problems with both in and out calls. There is no constant that I can attach to it. except that when it drops it takes 3 minutes to recover. no reboot is needed (not manual).

I am on the board a lot and see this mainly with the BEFSR41. I had the problem prior to upgrading the firmward and it still exist after upgrading the firmware in the router.

I will try and call customer waiting (service) and see if they offer any help.

i am having similar problems with my Vonage service and the wonderful Tech Support blamed my router BEFSR41 v2

I want to have the Mot VT1000 behind my BEFSR41 (which is connected to my Cable Modem)... I have servers and the like behind my router...

heres what happens:
Cable Modem > BEFSR41 > MOT
I set the MOT as my DMZ (since i do not have enough ports remaining to forward)... incoming calls are perfect... outgoing calls: i hear dial-tone, then dial number... then nothing.

Mad Tech Support told me I HAVE TO put MOT VT1000 in front of router and that I can set the BEFSR41 as the VT1000's DMZ, but then I do not get internet on any of the machines. and that i HAD to update the BEFSR41's firmware (which i did; it's now 1.45.11, Jun 03 2004)

Sad right now, i am setup:
Cable Modem > MOT > BEFSR41
Forwarding SOME (but not enough) ports to the router and letting the Router's Port Forwarding handle the redirection to my internal machines... but as mentioned, i do not have enough ranges or available ports to forward.

Question How can i get the MOT VT1000 to work behind the router?
