I was having trouble with my outbound (upload) Voip transmissions breaking up or were of poor quality. I tried several things, one was getting the very nice Netgear RP614v2 router. However, the old problem still plagued me.

So I got a new cable modem from Road Runner and am having little trouble now. I had a Toshiba PCX1100 modem which I swapped out with an unmarked OEM (Ambit?) modem.

After the swap, I noticed a wonderful improvement over my Voip outbound transmission (at least so far). So I would suggest you consider your cable/DSL modem a potential problem if you are suffering the same problems I did.

I'm having similar network connection loss. Here's how my network is configured.

Cable Modem(Toshiba PCX1100)>>Motorola VT1000v>>Linksys BEFW11S4>>WUSB11(on computer upstairs)

WAN IP on Router is obtained automatically
LAN IP is Static

I've been getting random drops in network connectivity recently. The first time that I noticed it was when i went to use my phone and did not get a dial tone. My PC was working on the internet slowly, but it was working. All systems lights on my boxes downstairs were green and static.

Lately I have had gibberish phone service and internet slowdown problems. The wireless signal is fine just can't get anywhere on the internet. I've had to reboot my cable modem a couple of times. Nothing seemed to fix the cut-in/cut-out on the phone. It just seems to work sometimes and then poorly or not at all. I've tested the line speeds and they check out fine for Voip service. I've even lowered the voice quallity to normal with Vonage. Still I have not had much reliability.

I'm thinking of putting the Moto behind the router and opening ports to it. Hopefully that will solve the random drop problems. I'm not too familiar with the way the Motorola box functions, but it seems to be sending/receiving quite a bit. My "Data" light on the Cable modem flashes quite a bit even without powering up the PC.

I am having calls dropped randomly as well with this setup:

cableModem->befsr41->vt1000.

After the calls drop, i notice a loss of connectivity as well. I can recover by cycling the router (haven't waited for 3 mins). I upgraded the firmware last night and still see the problem occasionally.

This seems to be a common problem.

I would put the vt1000 up in front of the router, except it doesn't seem to do port forwarding (web server). At least I can't figure out how to forward ports with it.

This is basically what happens to my setup. I end up having to power cycle everything. [crossed fingers]I have not had any problems for the past week. [/crossed fingers] I have considered putting the vt1000 behind the router to get to my web server. However, I'm trying to isolate the problem so changing the setup isn't a good idea.IMHO

Hmm . . .

If I was running web servers, I am not sure I would be opening any more ports than necessary. But that is just me.

I too was having problems with my ATA dropping calls and my internet connection being lost after I hooked up my Linksys BEFSR41. I tried a firmware upgrade but nothing changed. I had to have the router in place because my ISP wouldn't supply an ip address to the ATA. The setup I was using was cable modem>BEFSR41>ATA and the pc on another port.
I switched the setup around to cable modem>BEFSR41>ATA>pc and have not had any problems since then.

I've had frequent connection losses (daily) with my BEFSR41 router, which could sometimes be solved by cycling power on the router. I took a chance with a new D-Link DI-604 router, and have had a steady connection for a week now (either that, or the DI-604 has a working auto-reconnect). At any rate, I think some routers must really suffer from poor software (I'm guessing it's just one guy that does the software for several routers with similar hardware), and right now the LinkSys routers don't seem to be up to snuff.
