Using WRTP54G Router. Plugged into house wiring. Works for a short period of time then stops working. Pick up phone dialtone present but when dial a number continued dial tone but no call. Plug phone directly into phone port then able to make calls again.

Are you sure you have disconnect your POTS line? Is the phone light lit on the WRTP54G when you pick up phone and the dialtone present but when you dial a number you get a continued dial tone but no call? How many devices do you have on your home wiring?

If everything works fine when you plug a phone directly into the box, but weird things happen when you connect it to your home wiring, then that probably means there's something wrong with your home wiring. If you've got a meter, try measuring voltage and resistance from one wire to the other when nothing is connected. I would expect 0 volts, infinite resistance.

I would agree with paul248 that something is amiss with your inside wiring. Do you recall if they had put in different phone lines to different rooms when you had the house built? That is only thing I can suspect when it comes to the phone wiring. Why don't you open up all the jacks and double check that only the blue and blue/white cables are connected to the red and green terminals on the phone jacks (including the jack that your phone adapter is plugged into). So long as they are all consistently matched up, it should work. I suspect that one of them might have been cross wired...

See instructions from mohrds and the following post http://www.vonage-forum.com/ftopic7099.html

To summarize:
Line 1:
white with blue = green = tip
blue = red = ring

Just make sure that this is consistent for all your jacks. If so then it should all work just fine.

Just a quick note,

my experience with new construction is that even they make silly mistakes like flip flopping switches or connecting the wrong line to the switch. In my case, they connect my dishwasher to the switch under the sink that is designed to turn off the garbage disposal. So I wouldn't be suprised if something is crossed up in your wiring.

Yikes! I'm so glad I don't let anyone touch my house except me.
