Hello,

Got my Vonage delivery today. Took it out of the box and installed it just like the manual says to... didn't work. I retried and rebooted about 10 times but still nothing.

The manual seems to be a little vague and lacks instructions. All it pretty much says is to just plug it in and go...

Is there something that has to be done with your computer that is not in the manual? I have cable modem. When I connect the Vonage system everything just stops working, no internet or nothing. But after I take the system off and put everything back the old way it works again.

I am lost! Question

I to just installed my ATA tonight and in fact it's on right now and is passing data packets just fine as if it were before. I've not tried to pickup the phone yet to check for dial-tone because it's not been five minutes.

I have the single computer setup Cable Modem->ATA->Computer

I did nothing with the settings but what I did do before unhooking my computer from the cable modem was to release the IP configuration from my PC. I did this so that my cable internet provider knew that my IP address was no longer needed and plus I wanted a fresh NIC for the ATA to assign it's IP address to my computer.

Once everything was hooked up I plugged the ATA in and bingo I saw it was talking to the outside world.

I did a ipconfig /renew on my PC and it successfully requested an IP from the ATA and this is the first website I've visited with the ATA between me and my cable modem.

BTW- I also have Norton Personal Firewall running and it required no changes! I am also connected to my companies VPN server and all is running fine.

Cool- I just picked up the handset and I have DIAL TONE!

More details. Are you getting an IP address? Did you retry resetting or recycling your router? Make and Model of router?

Are you using a router? CAT-5 cables going to both PC and phone device going to the router? On your PC, run "ipconfig/all" at a DOS prompt. Copy and post the results here. Also, what IP address did your phone device report?

No I am not running a router. I am connecting the modem to the phone device and then connecting that to the computer. Just like the manual says...

Now when you strat talking about all this other ip config and DOS prompts I am totally lost. I have windows ME and I always thought you couldn't use DOS prompts with that.

I guess Vonage is just not the service for me.
Oh well...
