Well I couldn't find much on this topic. The best I can figure is that I should avoid the Linksys WRTP54G at all costs!

What's better, for me to get a new wireless router with Voip ports built in, or get a certain adapter retail, or let Vonage send me one?

I'd appreciate some quick advice on this matter.

Depends on your setup. I go Surfboard 5100-RT31P2-PC, and have no trouble...If you already have a router than can support QOS, go the straight adapter route.

I go Surfboard-RT31P2-WAPB11(Wireless) and it works great (except on a lousy hotel connection).

I have DSL, so that motorola doesn't help me. My router is a netgear wgt634u but i see nothing about "QoS" in the description.

so just get the free adapter from Vonage. then connect as follows:

dsl modem->phone adapter from linky->netgear router.

there is a setting on the phone adapter to enable QoS and it will prioritize voice traffic over data

Thanks, now we're getting somewhere. I'll get running faster if I buy the adapter retail right? How long does it take to have one sent by Vonage?

yeah you can go to the store and get it and have the ASAP feel if you need it.. i was going to go that route with the wrtp54g adapter but opted not to aftr researching on it.

i ordered my service on july 3 and they sent the box out july5. i got it that week so id say it was about 3-4 days. actually they drop the box off at your local post office which i didnt know about and thats another day, so if they were to drop it at my door bypassing the PO drop then it would have been 3 days total.

Just start your service up and they will send you the RT31P2. you should get it pretty quickly, and is easy to setup/use.
No rebates etc...

Dominus,

my advice, order the rt31p2 from Vonage directly. It will save you the hassle of dealing with the rebate.

I ordered it on a Friday night around 7 pm and by 9:30 pm it had already shipped out DHL. It arrived at my home on Tuesday in the USPS mail. Of course, they ship out from OH so if you live on either coast or some rural area, it will take an extra day or two. But well worth the hassles I am reading about here about people trying to get their rebates.

Okay wait a second, rt31p2? that's a router right? I still need that? I thought I just needed the "free adapter"? The PAP2, right?

My netgear wireless DSL router doesn't have any mention of "QoS" in its product description pages but I need wireless capability for one of my two computers using the router.
