Post subject: Port 8080 Device is no longer recognized
I hope I can explan this properly.
I have a ZyXel router/DSL modem and I have just set up
Vonage
, which is working great, except now that I have the connection going through the Motorola VT1000 device, I can no longer transmit a webcam broadcast using Port 8080. The transmission is just not recognized any more.
Now, I have forwarded all my ports through my ZyXel router, correctly, I believe, so I am just trying to figure out what could have knocked out this forwarded port. The cam software is behaving exactly the way it did when I still used an IP that disallowed port forwarding (but mine DOES allow it). Also, I don't know if this is important or not, but I have only one PC hooked up to my router.
Any ideas? (And even better, any solutions?)
My apologies if I am not properly explaining myself.

I'm still a
Vonage
newbie, but I'd guess you need to go into the http interface of the
Vonage
MTA and enable port forwarding for 8080.
I chose to disable NAT on my
Vonage
. I just got it working about 30 minutes ago but so far it seems good. See the 4 page post near the top (my comments are at the bottom of page 3).

Jeff, thank you for your help.
Well, I disabled NAT in the Motorola VT1000 and I forwarded Port 8080 in the user interface. I wasn't sure which option in the drop down menu next to the port info I should select (and I can't get into the web interface now that I have disabled the NAT to take a look at what they were), so I chose "Both," which I was hoping was the correct response.
Then I went into my ZyXel router and took off port forwarding for 8080.
But still no joy. I can use my lovely
Vonage
service, but I cannot use my cam software. Well, I can use it, but no one else can see it, heh.
I just don't know what to do next. Did I mess up something? Surely others have gotten around this?
Thanks again for the assist.

If you want to disable NAT in the MTA I believe what you should do is remove the port forward entry in the MTA (or not - in theory it shouldn't do anything with NAT disabled) and put the port forward entry back in your router.
With NAT disabled the MTA should have zero impact on network traffic flowing through it. All port forwarding should be done by your router.
If you don't disable NAT on the MTA I think you probably need to have the port forwarding entry on *both* the MTA and the router.

Woohoo!!! I got it to work with a live human at
Vonage
, almost unheard of!!!
Hint: if you need to contact them, do it at like 9:15am EST.
But yes, I figured it out, at least through my set up.
What one needs to do is disable the NAT setting on the Motorola. When you do that (I think it is under Advanced Settings), it will ask it you want to reboot it. That is fine. You may lose connectivity and your phone line for a minute or two. You don't have to reboot your computer or turn off your router or anything, just wait a few and it will come back.
Then you have to figure out what your actual IP address is. Since I am not naturally a Windows person, I was instructed to go to the Start Menu and Select Run, Type in cmd Then at the next screen, type in ipconfig.
THEN, I went to Router setting IP interface and added Port 8080 under the NAT settings and the IP addy I got when I ran ipconfig. And then it worked!
It's all worked quite well, as long as I don't try pulling up a new web page while I am on a call. When that happens, the voice on my end sounds like it's riding down a hill in a wagon, but the caller never knows, it's just on my end. Still, not bad, especially since I'm in Copenhagen!
